Ask:
Damaged Acromion
I have been diagnosed as having an acromion that is 50% less in height from the top down, than the average acromion, which was worn over time and not by quick injury. What could cause this type of problem and how can I help it as well as stop injury to my AC joint. I am not athletic and have not had jobs with repetitive motions. I am 5'5" 170 lbs with diagnosis of acromion by xray and mri.

Do you mean your acromion has half the height of the other one or is it displaced so that it is full-sized but it appears lower down in relationship to other? If its the former I'd suspect some sort of osteopenia or degenerative changes. If its the latter than a separated shoulder is more likely. In either case, talking with an orthopedic surgeon about your symptoms may help you come up with a reasonable treatment plan.
Answer:

My acromion sits higher than the other but it has half the height of the other.
I looked up esteopenia and degerative changes and neither of the symptoms apply to my condition. I have talked with an orthopedic surgeon and have had physical therapy with cortisone cream and heat therapy. I am just trying to determine what could cause this type of injury with esteopenia and degenerative change ruled out. I'm only 40 yrs old, active but not athletic.
