Ask:
been in pain for almost 2 years... please help
first off i wanna say thank you so much for offering this service! this is a very helpful way for me to find out what my problem is before going to a doctor and i really appreciate it!
i am a 23 year old male and live on my own. i have no health insurance since i live paycheck to paycheck, and no one helps support me.
for almost 2 years i have been having these pains. the pain is only aggravated when i am standing for a long period of time. on my days off from work i barely ever hurt.
my first job is as a server. when i first get to work i am fine, but after about an hour of standing and walking i get a pain that is behind my testicals going back towards the anus (i'm not sure what the medical term is for this part of my body). its at the very base of my groin. it feels like pressure. it gradually will get worse as the day progresses, and only stops when i sit down for a little while.
my second job is data entry. on days when i am sitting at the computer, i have no pain. but on days when i am standing and opening mail (no walking or lifting), the pain is equally as bad as the other job.
the pain will also somewhat bother me down on the right side of my groin muscle around where my leg connects to my torso right above my penis (does that make any sense?). but this pain is not as extreme as the other.
it is even now effecting my penis itself. when i get an erection, it sometimes hurts. my penis will be sensitive, especially on the head of the penis.
the pain has been going on for almost 2 years. it keeps getting worse and worse and everyone thinks i am crazy for not doing anything yet.
but actually i visited a doctor about a year ago. i thought it was some sort of hernia since it will hurt when i sneeze. so i told the doctor that, and the doctor did a physical inspection. he made me cough while holding my testicals and said he didnt noice anything. so he referred me to someone else and they did an ultrasound on my testicals. they said there was nothing out of the ordinary, just maybe a little extra fluid and to come back on an 'as needed' basis.
like i said, i am a student working 2 jobs who is strapped for cash and these 2 doctor visits had me broke for a while. then one day i had gone to the emergency room because the pain was really bothering me one day. the only thing they said they could do was give me a CAT scan... but they said it would be VERY expensive and after waiting in the waiting room for 5 hours the pain had subsided. so i said forget it.
so now i am so confused on what to do. i don't know what the pain is.... i don't want to waste anymore money going to a doctor unsure of the problem... and more importantly i don't want to hurt anymore or do anything serious to my body!
please help me!

Hi FinalWish,
Welcome to the forum. Sorry you have had this pain for so long. This sounds like something that would well be worth the money to get a diagnosis and proper treatment. Esp. since your are so young and you may want to be sure of becoming a father later in life, just to be sure all is going to be ok to do so. An urologist will be able to diagnosis and treat your condition whatever it may be. I'm sure you have researched your symptoms but here is a link that is related for reading.
Good Luck to you and let us know:smile:

thank you for the link.
true, i have done a lot of research, but i don't quite know my problem. i know it is very serious like you said, and i can't let it keep going.
it's not really my testicals that are hurting. the doctors just keep assuming that's where the problem is since i say my groin area. the pain is actually -behind- the testicals. its on that flat part of skin, inbetween my legs.... i don't know what it is called, sorry.
if i apply pressure and rub on that part then the pain somewhat goes away for a second.
what is it called? im gonna look it up...
ok... i tried to look it up on a diagram but theres no name for it. its between the testicals and the rectum.
on the diagram i see the prostate right above it so now i am SCARED!

i've had prostate problems, an infection namely, last year. it hurt ALL the time
especially when sitting, it made it worse. your pain comes when your on your feet? i'm sure not a doctor, but...maybe pelvic floor muscles? maybe you have uneven leg length and its aggravating your muscles in the groin?
just a suggestion from an amateur,:) good luck

hmmm... never thought about something like that being the cause.
it wasn't a problem for the first 21 years of my life. but since then it has been agony.

I agree with painful1 that prostate is one possible cause for your pain. There are also others, such as inflammation of the muscles or tendons in the area, and yet many others, and obviously a thorough physical examination is needed and I agree with Purple Lady that a urology referral might be in order. I think your best option would be to talk to your primary care physician again, and see where you get with that.

thank you for your response!
i am planning to visit a doctor very soon. i am trying to get insurance in the next couple of days, and see what my options are.
i really hope it's not my prostate... that could be serious. on a side note, around the time my pain started, my hair has been thinning ever since. probably just a coincidence, but i know hairloss and the prostate can be related, right?
so my last question is this. what kind of doctor should i be trying to see? a urologist?
