Ask:
I thought I had radiculopathy
I was in 2 car accidents in the last three years (men over the age of 87 in big trucks ran into me). I started getting neck pain 6 months ago which hasn't been severe but pretty constant. That same month I developed right thumb and pointer finger, and right hand burning, I have a hard time explaining what the burning feels like, but kind of like wearing a glove, I do have some lack of coordination. My thumb twitched at first, and I feel it in my inner wrist and forearm too. I have never had this before. I tried conservative, then PT, and finally went to an MRI. The MRI said there was no foramin narrowing at any level but did show broad osteophyte complex at C5-6. What is osteophyte complex? One website said it was from osteoporosis. I am 29, so I hope I don't have that now. What can be causing the strange sensation in my hand if there is no narrowing or stenosis? Oh yeah the EMG was negative for carpal tunnel. Thanks!

Osteophyte is bone tissue growth due to degeneration of the spine. It's not unheard of in a 29yo woman. Whether this osteophyte is causing your symptoms or not, requires a thorough physical examination and examination of your MRI by a neurosurgeon. Did the EMG say anything else, was there any indication of spinal nerve root damage?

I had the EMG in a neurologist office in January, and I didn't get a report, but the Doctor said he thought the problem was from C6. He recommended I do therapy and wait to see if the pain went away. It has actually gotten worse especially at my neck and shoulder, so when I went for an appointment he sent me for this MRI. I will see him again to find out what it means next week. The MRI did say I had an atypical hemangioma at T1- C7 and recommended I do a follow up MRI in 6-12 months to check for stability

OK, I'm happy that you're scheduled for a follow-up. Keep us posted-
