ive had other posts , about feet pain etc,
i just returned from podiatrist, he looked at xrays taken a couple months ago.
the dr who read the xrays in hospital said i have osteopenia-which i think is mild thinning of the bones. my podiatrist said its osteoporosis, he asked what meds i'm on and i told him prednisone 10 mgs a day, for one of them////
he told me its from the prednisone. hands down.he said my adrenal glands are shut down and i cant produce anymore bone, it cant be reversed. i would like someone elses opinion on this, cant the drugs like fosamax help out? orcalcium pills? and how does he know my adrenal glnds are shot? all he did was look at xrays of my feet! doesnt he need some bloodwork to back this up? i've taken the prednisone 5 mg twice a day for almost ten years.
i also use smokeless tobacco , could tobacco do the same thing?
can this be reversed?

I would think he would need a blood test for adrenal gland function. I think hes going on your long term use of prednisone and the usual outcomes of this drug in this instance. This drug has many long term effects. I am so sorry you are having these problems. While its like a wonder drug it comes with a penalty. I'm not the Dr so maybe he may have more information on help.

thx. i believe you're right. in a case like this i think blood work is essential.
this particular doctor doesnt even really want xray reports or results, he just wants the films, and of course he contradicted what the radiologist said. the hospital where i got the films taken is very well known and respected for its radiology dept,among other things. of course,i could always get another opinion too. thx for your reply
