I have an assignment in which i have to find imagery, personification, a metaphor, and indirect characterization for each chapter. right now im stuck in both chapter 5&6

Light is a good one, it is present in every chapter, and represents postive characters, and sometimes innocence. Metaphor is easy, just search for 'like a..." personification is a little more specific, and imagery is everywhere you look in that book. Which do you need help with?

I don't have the book with me, so without seeing the text directly the best advice I can give you is to look for wherever human qualities are applied to something that's not human. But even just looking at random quotes on the internet I can see it: eg chap 6 p 99 "Already the sun had left the valley to go climbing up the slopes of the Gabilan mountains, and the hilltops were rosy in the sun." or "Then gradually time awakened again and moved sluggishly on"
