Ok here is the problem I have over 100 avi files on

Ask:
my computer All movies and their taking up every ounce of my computers memory and I was wondering how do I convert them into something with less memory.

Answer:
hmm you might want to Xfer some onto DVD, the problem with AVI's is they are already compressed so even compressing them will have little effect on the size of the files. Either get a bigger hard drive or delete some.
Answer:
divx are smaller than avi but the quality isn't great, i recommend getting an external hard drive just for your avi's, that or put them on a pile of dvd's but that's risky, you might loose them...
Answer:
most AVI's now are encoded using a DIVX codec anyhow lol
Answer:
dvd's have a max life span of 10 years, that's only if you look after them well and that's not that long really. I've lost good vid's and music because of dvd's :(
Answer:
that is true, but tbh its longer than a Hard drive in most cases :)
Answer:
It's time to get that 300 Gig drive and install it as a slave. If you don't want to tinker inside your computer you can get an external drive that plugs into your USB port. Good luck Ron
Answer:
I'm not sure if your talking about storage or memory. First your AVI files will not use any memory untill played. Now for storage get a new hard drive and install it into the pc and set it as Slave using the pins on the front. Follow the directions on setting the pins. Format it and then transfer all of your Avi files onto the new HDD. You should get the biggest HDD that you can afford You will need over 200 gig hard drive. Hope this helps :-)
Answer:
well it has been basicly said already, so I'm not going to say it again. ************************************************************************************ Please take no offence to this post. I put this on most computer posts until it can be added to the help bot. People asking for Computer help please read. To be able to help you we need to have more detail than "there was an error and now the computer does not start" with that information there is no way that we can help. here is a list of information that if you send along then we can help better. -what operating system(what windows ie: xp, vista, 98, etc.) -desktop or laptop. -make and model -any error messages exactly as they were displayed. -any odd noises, or smells that have ocoured since the problem. -let us know if you have installed any new hardware or software since the problem. By posting this information the first time round we don't have to ask and can resolve the issue faster. Basicly we need more info in most cases. just something to keep in mind.
