is home school a good idea?

Ask:
I did not do very well with public school, and am thinking about doing a home school program for my kids.

Answer:
I think it just depends on the person. I've had two friends who were home schooled. Both of them were far ahead of their peers, academically. However, they also both had problems making friends. From that, I would think that home-schooling helps kids learn better than public schools, but it might not be very good for their social development. But everyone is different. How old are your kids? If they're old enough, you could ask them what they want. Or you could try homeschooling for a year, and then see how things are going. If you do homeschool, you might want to sign up your kids for some activity where they can be around other kids their age - like boy scouts/girl scouts, soccer, or an after-school program at the local YMCA. Good luck!
Answer:
I agree with Mango.. Home schooling is awesome for getting a good grasp on education seeing the bond between a child and parent are so much more focused. There are some issues with motivations on the parental side. It's something that takes a good about of attention and drive. It's not for procrastinator or for those who have trouble with organization. It's good to get a great understanding of everything involved before attempting it. Talking to parents that are successful is fairly easy, but talking to the ones that weren't are a little hard to come by. Either way you choose to go, it should be interesting to learn about. The social issues are apparent also, like Mango mentioned. I've heard this time and time again. Of course with every gain there seems to be lose, I guess you can find a balance if you are paying close enough attention. Even visits to parks and play dates can offer a nice social environment for kids to free socialize. I would think that unstructured activities would assist in helping more with social maturing of a child more than structured activities simply because they can express themselves on a one on one basis. There is certainly nothing wrong with a good scouting though. Good luck on your investigation of this. Kirk

LOL - being with your kid 24/7 who's that the con for? the parent or the kids.
Answer:
according to the source lol Being with Your Kids 24/7. There's no denying it — if you choose to homeschool, you're going to be with your kids most of the time. If you don't enjoy being together, then homeschooling is not for you. While it can sometimes be difficult, most homeschool parents view their daily interactions with their kids — the ups as well as the downs — as opportunities for personal and familial growth.
Answer:
in my opinion there are two sides to truely consider... 1) you know what your kids are learning 2) your kids do not have the same interaction with other kids and ppl, so may not "know how to socilize" with others. However ~lilies~ has some other very good points.
