I understand that we all go through finacially tough times, but what I don’t understand is people asking for handouts. I’m irritated when I see people on here asking for charity for themselves from strangers on the internet. When did begging become acceptable? I understand that sometimes people need a little extra help, Lord knows I’ve needed it a time or two, but I can’t imagine having the audacity to beg from strangers, there’s something that just doesn’t seem right about that. Ok this is the place to come for help, but is a handout really help? A lot of people that ask for handouts will continue to ask for handouts and not do what is necessary to help themselves. I could be more understanding if they offered to work for the money they are asking for. I figure if you have the time and resources to beg on the internet then you have the time to work and earn money on your own without begging. If you do work and are still struggling work harder, but people don’t want to do that anymore, It’s like people seem to think others owe them a living. Nobody owes me anything, the condition of my life, is up to me. If I was going to ask for anything, it would be a job. I’m open to opinions, but please don’t slam mine.

I understand your position Fiz, and I think for the most part your feelings are shared by a great many. I don't think "begging" has become socially "acceptable", especially after reading your post, and others like it in the past. It's merely a new way that we must get used to... all things change with technology... the way we shop, the way we find where we are going on trips... the way we write letters to each other.. the way we read a book or the news... and yes, even the way we ask for a handout - beg. The old addage still remains the same... "give a man a fish and you've fed him for life... TEACH a man to fish and you've fed him for LIFE". Regardless of this, there will be poor always. Desperate people do desperate things. You say you could not beg, but deep within all of us there is a breaking point where we WILL do the unspeakable... it's just that your personal tolarance is higher than others. So... when you run across someone begging on the internet, it's no different than if you see someone begging on the street corner. The only difference is the medium... the same difference between a mail received from the post office... or one received in your email. So, when you see a begger standing on the street corner... ERM... Give a man a fish you've fed him for a DAY. LOL... I feel the same sometimes. But I've also been known to come out of the market with an extra cup of coffee (because I usually don't carry cash). If they don't want coffee on a cold morning... oh well - I've been known to drink more than one cup :) The problem with the internet, is that it is world wide... so they are many, you are one. The street corner has become INFINITELY larger. So large in fact that if you gave to everyone, you'd be joining them soon! That, I feel, is the source of "distaste"... the volume of it all. Also, it's not a buck they are asking for, but rather hundreds or thousands of dollars! I was unemployeed for reliable, living wage work for nearly 3 years. Were it not for the generousity of my family, I would have been homeless. Forced to have been homeless. It was not that I was not looking for work, I was.. in fact I was OVER qualified for many jobs and so turned away. I've spoken with the homeless, and they are on such a downward spiral... sick or infirm, it is nearly impossible for them to rise up from their condition without a handout (a helping hand). I do not give them excuses... yes I believe we all have the power to control our life. But it all depends on how well we can cope. America is becomeing the land of "haves" and have-nots" The middle class is shrinking, and it will be the downfall of our Nation. Anymore these days, the best I can do when I see those asking for a handout... or when I see the homeless... is pray they will be safe and happy... I'm not saying that everyone doesn't need a helping and once and awhile. I was in the same position, I didn't have a home and had to stay with friends and family a couple of times when I was younger, but I didn't stay in that situation. I've also been in the position where my sister and her kids had to move in with me because she didn't have anywhere to go. I will freely give my help to someone that truly needs it. The problem I have is with those, that don't want to help themselves. Your right about everything you said. One big problem is that people don't want to learn to fish, they want someone else to keep feeding them the fish. I'm certainly not going to praise the Government, because it's not worth praise, but people need to take more personal responsibility and quit blaming others.

I agree with this post to a point... I dont and i don't think I have asked anyone for money on here, i might have asked where I could look to get help for my money problems.. but anways I used to work 2 full time jobs and a part time job, I had no life, and I couldn't even think straight after so long I did that for 6 months and had to stop because I was starting to put the people I take care of in danger so people do work, work harder to get money but sometimes it doesn't always work. Right now I work 3 part time jobs and still can't make ends met, right now only reason why i'm on here is because i had a doctors appointment today so i took off from all my jobs and i've gotten so burnt out that I slept through my alarm and had to cancel my doctors appointment because i couldn't make it there when i was suppose too. So i just wanted to let people know there is people out there that do work harder to get what they want and dont beg for money on here..
