Look at the wiki article or just keep this in mind, HIPAA is basically a privacy act regarding your health information. No medical professional can reveal private information to a second party who is not allowed to have that information. For example, you are sick in the hospital and your friend comes to see you. Your friend asks a nurse, or doctor, or even a housekeeper what is wrong with you. Without your permission, they cannot reveal that information. Nor can they reveal that info to your relatives, including your parents. Your legal guardian can have the information though if you are a minor. It also means that if you are volunteering in a medical facility, you cannot reveal information about patients. Example, you are volunteering and someone you know is admitted into the clinic. You can't go and tell your friends that you even saw that person at the clinic that day because that is private information which you received by working in the clinic. Hope that helps a bit. How does hipaa define a health care provider? what steps must be covered entities tale plan for disasters, emergency situations, and loss of data? what should be included in covered entity's contingency plan? what should be included in covered entity's data back up plan? what should be included in a covered entity's disaster recovery plan? What should be included in a covered entity's emergency mode operation plan? how do covered entities ensure that their contigency plan will provide a smooth transition during emergency situations? are coverd entities permitted to disclose electronic PHI to vendors? if theirs any info u can give me on those i would appreciate it sooooo much !!!! ive tried searching on the net but they are not fully brief about the info i need ... thanks Brizet
