I'm not sure if they explained it. It could have been that he stole the money from his grandfather. I was also under the impression that he snuck onto the bus with the way he was hiding in the back kind of under the seat. I know the perp said in his intervew that he'd offered the kid a dollar for every golf ball he got, but then, obviously, the kid ran off without his money.
I actually wondered about this myself. I'll check another message board and see if it's mentioned.

I was wondering about the headache thing too. They seemed to be focusing a lot of attention on this. There have been rumors swirling around for a few years about William Peterson wanting to leave CSI and move on to other things. I worry every year about his character getting killed.
