I have never listened to Country Music, but I did listen a bit to the CMA's. Now what kind of singer or album would you recommend to a novice like me?
For example in Pop music there are compilations for the best songs of each year, is there such a thing for country music too? And what is Carrie Underwoods album called and is it good?

Carrie Underwood's album is called Some Hearts. I really like it. I'm not a huge country music fan, I enjoy it sometimes, just not a HUGE fan. I took my dd (4) to see Carrie at our local fair this past summer and she loved it...I had a good time too. Anyway, as we listen to the cd in the car NON-STOP now (per dd's request!!), I'm liking it more and more. Very easy to sing to. I think I got mine on e-bay, new, for pretty cheap.

Some of your top country music artists are Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Toby Keith, Rscal Flatts, and Brooks and Dunn. I think any of them would be good to start out listening to if you are new to country music.

I'm not a huge fan of country but I do like:
Rascal Flatts and Keith Urban. Shania Twain's greatest hits CD is great for doing housework and nights out with the girls ~ very upbeat and fun!
I also think Martina McBride has pipes man. She can belt out her music and she does it in such a way that it's enjoyable not over the top!

I think it's a matter of what you like now too .Toby Keith has been my fav country singer since 93, Trace Adkins is along the same lines...His new CD Dangerous Man is pretty good. Rascall Flatts is great (I'd probably start with the personally).
I agree with Christy on Martina McBride....she is WONDERFUL, you can't go wrong with her...I think I love every song she's ever done (including the most beautiful version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow I've ever heard).

I too also think it depends on your personal preferences.
If you want old school classic country sounds, George Strait is the best, i love his ballads.
If you like rough-neck, honky tonk,boys having a good time kind of music with no apologies, Toby Keith and Montgomery Gentry and Trace Adkins are great for that.
Martina McBride is awesome, just an absolutely beautiful voice, she sang with Pat Benetar and i have never ever heard an artist come so close to sounding like Pat Benetar as Martina did!!

I just started listening to country music about 5 or 6 years ago. The first artist that really caught my attention was Garth Brooks. His box sets are amazing!
I personally haven't bought CDs in several years. (just another way of saving money!) I would suggest just turning on the country radio station - or tuning your TV to CMT or GAC. You'll see the wide variety of country artists and their music - and it won't cost you an extra dime!

I would have to agree with this. Any of these would be a good place to start. I'm personally a HUGE Rascal Flatts fan. Another favorite would be Jason Aldean.
If you would like some cd's without having to buy them, let me know. I have several and would be happy to burn them for you.
