Ask:
What age is appropriate for the High School Musical movie? DD is asking for it for Christmas, she knows alot of the songs so I know the CD would be okay, but I wasn't sure about the movie... has anyone seen it?
Answer:
How old is your dd? Mine are 8 & 11 and love the movie and the music. HTH
Answer:
She is 7....mind you I'm not the strictest when it comes to movie screening ,but kissing scenes make her visibly uncomfortable (She's not allowed to watch movies with violence, sex and heavy love scenes...the few times she's walked in on TV shows with any type of kissing ,they get a big "EWWW" and she covers her eyes).
I didn't think it would be too bad, it's Disney, but b/c of the High School part, I wasn't sure, and I wanted to get it for her for her birthday or Christmas, and it would just be wrong to open her present first to watch it
Answer:
I let my almost 5 yo watch it. She absolutely loves it and knows all the songs and wants to learn the dances and recites the scenes. I dvr'd the movie, but plan to get her the CD and DVD's for Xmas.
Answer:
At the end of the school year, this last year, my daughters school played it for them in the classroom. She was in 6th grade and she goes to a Catholic School...so right there tells you a lot. It is a pretty tame movie.
Answer:
I am really strict about what my kids watch and I started watching this movie with them when it was on TV. I turned it off after the first few minutes b/c the very first scene is about a girl and boy and liking each other. I don't know how the rest of the movie is though but I decided that was too much for my kids. They are 3, 5, and 7. They do listen to the CD a lot and are getting a copy of it for Christmas from an aunt. I said no to the DVD. I guess I should probably borrow it and watch it again to see the whole thing. I don't know anyone else who doesn't let their kids watch it though, but like I said, I'm really strict.
I had to laugh about the comment saying it's Disney so it should be ok. I don't trust Disney movies at all - too much romance and sexual jealousy (Beauty and the Beast, Alidan). I remember one time my 5 yo dd was watching Disney Princess DVD from the library and the scene was from Beauty and the Beast characters (it's different from the movie, but same characters). The plot was that one of the characters was jealous b/c she thought her "sweetheart" forgot their anniversary and was liking Belle now instead of her. The female character then did some mean things to Belle b/c she was jealous and thought Belle was trying to steal her boyfriend. I do believe "steal my boyfriend" quote was actually used. Little kids do not need to see that stuff!
Answer:
Its very tame. I watched it the other night by myself and I enjoyed it. At the end, the 2 main charecters ALMOST kiss and thats most romance you get for the whole thing. I thought it was cute.
Answer:
My dd is 6 and she has both the CD and DVD. She loves them both.
Answer:
Thanks ladies! I'm going to get it this week (Toys R us has it on sale for 13.99 and 11.99 for the CD)
Answer:
I know this is late response, but my dd is 6 and ds is 9 and they both love the CD and the movie. In fact, we taped it when it was on tv but ran out of tape so it was only about half the movie and they would watch it over and over again! I got the dvd then because I was sick of watching the same part over. haha
