Magazine recommendation

Ask:
I love the Simple Living trend, and I love magazines. At first I thought Real Simple was a great magazine, but I've noticed it is full of advertisements masquerading as content (tons of "buy this product" articles). Isn't Simple Living supposed to be about consuming less?

Well anyway, I just got my first issue of Body + Soul magazine in the mail this week. There are a lot of articles about slowing down and enjoying the thing in life that really matter. It is more of the type of magazine I have been looking for. Plus, it's dirt cheap on Best Deal Magazines right now. $4.69/year plus an additional 15% off w/code: MOMMYSAV15. . Occasionally they run it as their deal of the day for even less. I'll try to keep you posted about that too.
Answer:

I ditched Real Simple a long time ago when they ran an article on Time Wasters and listed Breast Feeding in the top ten. Cancelled my subscription the same day. Then I subscribed to Budget Living and enjoyed that- but that is no longer published. I might have to try Body and Soul...

WHAT???? What was their rational for that silly argument???
Answer:

Their rational was that it takes way too much time- a real time waster when you can just pop open a can of formula and go. Obviously no research or thought had been given to the myriad benefits of breastfeeding. Another example of New Age parenting- whatever is easiest for mom and dad is OK with no thought for what is best for the baby.
Answer:

Jnbythesea, I remember when you posted that before, and it disgusted me that they would do that. However, I did hear about a backlash and decided to give them a chance after others praised it. I like that Real Simple's an easy read, but here's my problem with it: it's overpriced, big time. I totally agree with Kim. It's ads through and through, even in the editorial content. Much of the content is simple common sense. I actually regret paying my bill.

Thank you, Kim, for the recommendation, and I will give that a try.

By the way, did you post Amazon's buys for Friday? I didn't see it.
Answer:

I agree with what was said about Real Simple. It is all about shopping! Almost every article is about advertising other products! I went through my December issue and it was page after page of products. I especially get a kick out of some of the clothing - dresses for $300, purses, $500...THIS is supposed to be "Real" and "Simple"?! Give me a break! I'm not renewing my subscription when it comes up.

"Way to DITCH"!!! I'm sure they lost alot of subscribers.
Answer:

Isn't it funny that they think that it's easier to pop open a can of formula and go. I don't know about you guys, but I've nursed 5 babies and it was way easier to nurse and much cheaper and a lot less time consuming. Think about it, when my baby cries, I just nurse him right? If a bottle fed baby cries, I've got to get a bottle, warm it, and wait for him to finish it, now don't forget that sometime that day I had to wash those bottles, and prepare the formula, and all that goes with that. Now I don't know about you, but I can make breast milk and do absolutley anything else I need to do, talk about multitasking. I'm even lazier than that, when my baby gets up to nurse at night, I just go get him put him in bed and we're both back to sleep in seconds. There's no him waking up to a full scream while he waits for his bottle to heat, and having to sit and wait while he finishes the bottle. But then I'm just "lazy" that way, I like things the easy simple way, so it's breast feeding for me!!
