Ask:
Tom and Katie were already married prior to going to Italy????
I was watching a news channel last night, can't remember which one, and it was said that they wed in LA prior to going to Italy. Secondly, their guests did not know that and went to this wedding thinking it was the real deal. The ceremony turned out to be a Scientology ceremony in which Brooke was completely against. I guess some of the guests were very disturbed by it all and in fact Brooke was quoted as saying she thought it was a publicity stunt for him to have her there!
Answer:
Yes, I knew that, but that is not uncommon for people getting married outside the US. It makes it easier to have the legal stuff taken care of. That didn't bother me. I don't think it takes away from the ceremony because to a lot of people (not speaking of Scientology alone by ANY means - I think it is a bit whacky) it is the ceremony within their religion which is important - not the mandatory legal stuff to make it easier. We have friends that married in England and it was easier for them to get married by a JP beforehand and then go to England and have the ceremony. They consider the ceremony their true wedding and celebrate that anniversary.
Now, come on, for anybody who was there to say they didn't know it would be a Scientology ceremony had to be living in a cave for the past few months. If Brooke was so against it she should not have gone because she KNEW it would be a Scientology ceremony. JMHO
As far as the wedding guests, I think a lot of them were there for publicity from their studio heads and/or they have the same publicist, manager, whatever as Tom and/or Katie. I read online yesterday that they were wondering when Brooke or her dh would get a deal from some studio that had some say in whether they went or not.
Answer:
I agree with Claire. I think that BROOKE was also using this wedding for a bit of publicity for herself, too!! I don't care for Tom Cruise...I have been through ppd and also am a firm Christian, but I think they both were working this deal!!
Answer:
We rented MI:3 this weekend since we enjoyed the first two. My dh, who has always been a Tom fan way back to Top Gun days, said half way through, "You know, I am not enjoying this as much because I keep looking at him thinking what a nut he is." Interesting coming from him.
I think no amount of publicity can help him recover to where he was.
Answer:
I was wondering about the whole Brooke Sheilds thing. I was wondering WHY she would even want to be there, unless it was some sort of peace keeping or whatever??
Answer:
I had heard something on tv yesterday saying it is common for people getting married outside the country to do it here first for legal reasons. I am sure most of the guests would understand that. Although it is possible people knew it was going to be a Scientology wedding, but didn't realize what it entailed, and were turned off after sitting through it. Who knows, I don't know what a Scientology wedding entails.
I am sure Brooke, as well as everyone else, knew it was going to be a Scientology wedding. Anything "quoted by her saying otherwise was probably taken out of contest. Having her there was probably publicity for both of them. Or they truly wanted to make up, who knows.
Answer:
I don't see what the big deal is. Dh and I were married in Canada. As far as I know we have done nothing different than what we would have done here in the states. (in regards to paper work etc)
We aren't any less married legally/.

Nobody is saying that you are any less married, Christy. But, I think the difference is that you are a Canadian citizen. If you are not a citizen of the country where you are married, nor your future spouse, it makes things much more complicated. That is the difference - not the actual ceremony or recognition. Since neither Tom nor Katie are Italian citizens, the paperwork is much more complicated, I imagine.
Answer:
Yah I thought about that after I posted it. I guess what confuses me then is what people do when they go to Mexico and other tropical places and have their weddings on a beach in a foreign country...is there something they would need to do once they return back stateside?
Answer:
Good question!!! Can someone please give me a fiance with enough money to go to a tropical place to marry me?!?!!? (not being mean...laughing, cause we sure couldn't afford that when we got married!!)
