Handeling fees

Ask:
Last week...or so...I got somehting off of Ebay for my little guy(floam....2 boxes of 6)...and I won it at .99.I was excited but before I won it,I was aware that this guy charged nearly 20.00 for shipping.First issue...The containers were very small.I thought that I was getting a great deal and it turned out in a way,I wasnt.Okay....fine...whatever.

My bigger issue is he charged 16.00 for handeling! He even stated they would be shipped via Fed Ex and it come by US postal service for the price of 4.05.Do you think it would cost that much for a handeling charge?I know it costs some money for the box..even tho I think it was used...and the tape which was not alot b/c it was a small box and the gas to take it to the PO(even tho it said Fed Ex).

When I charge handeling ...it is no more then a couple of dollars...if anything. He also has alot of sales so I know he doesnt make special trips to the PO....

I emailed him questioning him about the handeling and I hope for a reply. What would you do?
Answer:

WOW ! 16.00 for handling fees ?!!? This guy is nuts . I charge 2 bucks for handling and feel guilty about that. I would be upset he said it would be shipped one way and it came anther. Grrr.... Why do ppl go nuts on handling fees
Answer:

This is just his way of making his money. If the auction doesnt get up to a price that he likes.. then its ok.. cause he still gets the money from charging s/g out the butt. My advice.. dont bid on anything where the s/h charges arent listed.
Answer:

Yea it is probbaly to make up some of the money.I did look at the shipping and scince it said he was sending it Fed Ex,I never paid it nay mind as I know they are expensive.I will not be buying from him againMaybe he needs to start his bidding up a little higher.I looked as is past feedback again...Some others have complained about these fees....I didnt notice them before.
Answer:

When you ship FedEx, you automatically get indemnity coverage up to $100 for free. So if the package is damaged, etc...then FedEx covers the loss. I sell on Ebay and if my auction promises that I will ship FedEx but then for some reason I have to ship using the Post Office, I purchase the Postal insurance..even if it means that I'm out some money. I do this because with FedEx, the indemnity coverage is free and if I change the shipping method, I want to give my customer the same service or similiar service that FedEx offers.

Maybe you can mention that to the seller and if he didn't purchase Postal insurance maybe he can refund at least a little something.
Answer:

I think I'm confused, he charged you $20 for shipping, then $16 for handling? Or he charged you $20 including the $16 handling?

WEll I agree THAT is OUTRAGEOUS. People that do that STINK. What they are trying to do is cover thier costs by having a low start bid, and a high shipping.

However, there really isn't anything you can do about it. If he stated in the auction that was shipping, you agreed to it before bidding. What you can do is forward his name to ebay for excessive shipping, thats what I would do. I really don't expect him to respond to your email, and if he does, he most likely won't be polite.
Answer:

If he said he was shipping via FedEx and didn't, I would neg him. Don't let sellers get away with is. Its one thing if he state clearly in his aution that he is charging outrageous amounts - don't bid and report him. However, didn't fulfill his end of your contract by shipping the method he specified. And he is totally circumventing fees....report him!
Answer:

i give people the choice of which way they want somethign shipped. and i don't charge handling fees. i use second ahnd boxes i find around home, and i only ship ondays that i know i will be going to town anyways. it doesn't cost me any extra. and tape isn't expensive enough for me to charge for. that guys s/h is insane. i would complain about that.
Answer:

It is ridiculous, but If I think shipping is too high, I don't bid. I use calulated shipping and charge a 1.00 handling fee so it is usually pretty close to actual shipping. but, it bothers me when people complain about the shipping fees in feedback because they are the one who bid on it. I think the best way to deal with people who charge high shipping/handling os to not bid on their stuff
Answer:

Wow, that is a lot. I only charge a $1.00 or $1.50 handling. Is this considered excessive??? Maybe...you might report him to ebay...I am not sure on the policy for excessive shipping and handling.
