Dave Ramsey anyone?

Ask:
Just wondering if anyone here is familiar with Dave Ramsey, completed his FPU, or if anyone is working his program.

We found him while listening to the radio in the evening (we don't have cable or satellite for $$$ reasons). I found his book at a thrift store for 50 cents! Anyways, we are not Christians but we are trying to work his program anyways. We've done a budget and are working toward Baby Step 1 ($1000 in an emergency fund). Having cash on hand in the envelopes is severely tempting for me though.
Answer:

Dh and I completed FPU in August. We REALLY enjoyed it. We are doing the cash system and it has helped a LOT. Just remember ... when the cash is gone - you can't replenish it till the beginning of the month!!

Feel free to ask any questions that you want.

Answer:

I'm SO intrigued by this, but I just don't know how to start. I've heard of this program and people really doing well, saving money and getting rid of debt, I DO want to try this.
Answer:

I have been considering getting one of his books- does anyone know which book is the best? TIA< JEN
Answer:

The book I have is the Total Money Makeover but I do not have the work book.
Answer:

How did you like the book? Was it useful to you even without the workbook? I am in Canada, do you think most things still apply? TIA, Jen
Answer:

I have read on a different message board that all the Dave Ramsey books are all $10 each for a limited amount of time if you order them off his website.
Answer:

He teaches principals that work no matter what country you live in. Some things may differ re: investing based on laws per country but there are 13 chapters in FPU. I recommend getting Financial Peace Revisited if you are wanting to get started with Dave Ramsey's program. But to be totally successful with this, you need to have both DH and yourself on board with it.
Answer:

My sister-in-law started listening to him on the radio and loves how he has helped her try and become debt-free. She is making strides. I haven't heard him or read his books but think that I am a very good money manager. My husband and I are under 40 and have a house that is paid off. Last summer we did a complete kitchen redo which was all paid for by cash and no loans. We own our vechicles outright with no loans. We do use credit cards for the money back benefits but pay them off each month. We have a large savings account by most people's standards and are trying to learn how to invest our money for retirement. We will be putting the maximum allowed into my husbands 401K plan at work. Good luck to all who need help in the finance department. Keep listening to Dave Ramsay and follow his philophsey. It can be done.
