Ask:
Do your kids do these at school? I got notes home today from my 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders. The 1st and 2nd graders are doing a book exchange. They are supposed to bring a book that costs between $3 & $4 for the same sex as they are. Of course this was accompanied by a Scholastic book order form:D The 3rd grader is just supposed to bring a gift for a boy (girls bring for girls) that costs between $3 and $4. I kind of like the book idea and will probably be ordering them from the Scholastic order.
Answer:
no, not here. I would think that would be hard if not everyone practices same beliefs. schools are so careful about that stuff. I would hate to be the parent who still can't afford to buy. that was my family. we had a large family as well, but we were only one year apart. so all of us in school would mean $18-24. too much for us, that was total my mom would spend on all 6 of us kids. sorry did mean to make it depressing. edited: it's supposed to say did NOT mean to make it depressing. I'm such a dork ( and not the other meaning).
we are actually making a tractor. it is made out of different pieces of candy. we are goign to make them for all the girls classes. that means around 60 tractors coming off assembly line.

Answer:
At my ds school, they just do goody bags. Every child brings something small like pencils, stickers, erasers, etc. You bring enough for everyone in the class. This way everyone gets a bag. And even the children who can't afford to bring anything still end up with a bag full of stuff. I think it's wonderful.
Answer:
No, our kids don't do that in school. My son participates in one for scouts, but that is it.
Answer:
My daughter don't do that at least so far anyway. She is in first grade this year.
Answer:
They did say in the note that if ithe $3-4 was a financial hardship for the family, to call the councilor and a gift would "appear" from that child.
I can't believe my kids are the only ones who have this!!! They did it at their old school also!
Answer:
I think the book idea would be great I hope my daughters school does something like this.
Answer:
Last year my son's class was allowed to bring in a $5 gift to be exchanged among the class. It was optional. We haven't heard anything yet this year.
Answer:
My kids did the book swap in Kindergarten but since then they have brought in tricket gifts to be put in a big stocking. I still send in a book for the stocking. I really like the idea of book exchanges.
Answer:
I think the book exchange idea is cool too I should bring that up to my daughters teacher and see what she thinks and if they are going to be doing anything this year.
