Ask:
I need a method to clean my living room rug. Its pretty big, room sized so it won't fit in the washer like the rest of my rugs. I have hardwood floors so I'm afraid to use anything to clean the rug for fear of it ruining my floors. Any suggestions? All the store bought expensive cleaners don't seem to do anything, the rug still looks dingy.
Answer:
I've heard sprinkling salt on carpet and letting it sit and then vacum it up and it will make it fluffy again. I probably would use a carpet cleaner, maybe take it in another room to clean it or just don't go too close to the edge near the wood floor!

I bought a lovely area rug at a yard sell andit was pretty dingy looking. So I ( called mom ) and I cleaned it with a gallon of water and about a half cup of lemon ammonia. I used a scrub brush and cleaned the entire rug. It looks like new.
My mom always has the best recommendations for cleaning stuff. I hope it helps you also.
I would also recommend what mommy&wifeisme said>>maybe take it in another room to clean it or just don't go too close to the edge near the wood floor!
Answer:
I'd roll it up and take it outside to clean with a machine. Thats what I do.

That is what I was going to say too! When it's going to be nice for a couple days (no rain), we pressure wash the house the deck and our area rug. My hubby loves using his pressure washer- he pressure washes everything he's able too!
