Ask:
My dd is almost 6 months old. I was wondering about a highchair for her. Do I really need one? Will I need it that much? What kind should I get? I don't have alot of money to spend so I am looking for the best value.
Answer:
We bought the kind of high chairs that go on regular kitchen chairs and can be used as a booster seat too. I still use them for my 3.5 yr old and my 2 yr old. Otherwise they will not sit still and cannot reach the table properly. You definitley need something. Your baby will want to start feeding herself soon and that will be really hard without a highchair.
Answer:
You can get the booster seat with tray at walmart for under $20, hooks onto normal chair and has removable tray. I use my high chair 4 times a day for my 9 month old. Try searching your craigslist for a gently used one instead of buying new.
Answer:
I agree...I have the SpaceSavor High Chair that goes on a reg. chair...it was around $20-$30, much less than the "big ones". You will definetely want something!! I have been using mine for a while now..(as it tilts back so the baby was not sitting straight up). She is 6 1/2 months now and is sitting straight up. and she loves just sitting with all of us at the dinner table even if she is not eating.
Answer:
I agree with everyone else. Use a booster seat that goes on a regular chair (you can get ones that recline for a younger infant) instead of shelling out the money for a high chair. I had a high chair for my first but gave it away and stuck with a booster for my second - and I don't regret it a bit.
Answer:
I am going to have to go with everyone else on the board and say .. booserseat. they has so many diffrent ones that recline and do many other things. I have one that we used for my dd it doesn't recline but she started to use it around 7 months and is sitll in it at 22 months. I have one that is portable with a try that attaches to it and it has 3 hight adjustments so that she sits taller at the table. We did have a high chair and it was to big bulky and we only used it for a really short time. We got it as a gift from my FIL so it was one of thoose things we Had to use or would have asked about why we were not usuing it and I hated it. HTH
this is the one that we have and I love it
there is also this one that reclines.
Answer:
I like high chairs, and you DON'T have to spend a lot on one. I got the Peg Perego years ago and hate it. Too many nooks and crannies and it's impossible to clean them. Whatever you get, be sure it's easy to clean, as old food is.....ewwww!
Answer:
Thanks for all of the advice!! I searched at Walmart and could not find the one that fit on regular chairs for $20. I know they had it because I saw it but that has been several months ago. They have one that is $50. But I don't think I can spend that much on a Spacesaver. I am going to search the internet and see what I come up with.
Answer:
I got one (I think it's by The First Years or Safety First) at BabiesRUs. Try their site. It has a tray that fits on top that has all kinds of electronic gadgets to play with. I think it was about $30-35.

I wish we had bought a booster seat instead of a highchair.
If you do want to go the highchair route, look at Babies R Us for returned ones that are on clearance. I lucked up and found the one we wanted that way, and it was already put together!!
