Ask:
My dd is 10. Two years ago all she did was read, read, read. This year she has slowed down on the amount of reading she does. How many books do your children read in a month? I know books are different in length, but normally their reading ability equals the size of the books (if you know what I mean). I have noticed that she has been reading more frequently, maybe because it is getting darker earlier. I was just wanting to get some opinions on this.
Answer:
My dd and oldest ds read way too much, since it is always at night when they are supposed to be sleeping!!!
Answer:
It's like pulling teeth to get ds to read. I'm a reader, and it just kills me because I know the joys of reading, discovery and fantasy, and he's such a curious child. He has gone up seven levels in his reading this year, in his first grade, but he's still behind the class. I don't know what else to do. He gives me a whining problem every time I have him read. He really is not a bad reader when he does it for me! We're getting him a tape recorder for Christmas, hoping to encourage him, so I hope it doesn't backfire.
Answer:
my dd was not at the same maturity level as her reading level. she was also reluctant to read books without pics. I spoke with teacher ans she recommended books to my dd. she listened more to teacher than me. I would ask teacher/librian for advice on books.
I also think it fluctuates. as long as she is still reading I would assume all is still good.

Answer:
Both of my kids are big readers, but they always have been. Maybe try taking her to the library and letting her pick out new books, or give her a bookstore gift card for christmas where she can go pick out books after christmas. There's nothing my kids love better than a book gift card. What does she do with her free time instead??
Answer:
Aliadam, she is either doing homework or playing when she is at home. I have noticed lately that she is starting to read more in the car. She, too, has also been a big reader as am I. Maybe my expectations are just too high now that she has additional homework and outside activities. I just noticed that her number of AR points have decreased dramatically. I am just hoping that her love for reading is not dwindling.
