Induction because of Baby Size

Ask:
Has anyone ever been induced because their baby was predicted to be very large? I know if you're going to be OVERdue they will induce, but my doctor is already talking about a possible C-secton because the baby is measuring big. I was wondering if instead of this anyone had ever been induced like two weeks early? I hate the idea of inducing, but I hate the idea of a c-section even more.

(my 9 pounder had to have her shoulder dislocated and had a very hard birth... this is why theyre planning ahead i guess)
Answer:

I was induced with both of my dd's. My first was overdue and then my second was because of her size. He thought she would be bigger than my first (who was 9lb 2 oz) but she was actually only 8lbs 4 oz. My induction with her actually wound up as a c-section because of the way she was lodged in my pelvis. The induction for me was not really that bad. It was successful with my first dd and would have been if my dd wasn't stuck. The c-section was HORRIBLE but if it meant my baby was okay I'd do it again in a heartbeat!
Answer:

I was induced with my ds one week before his due date because of his size. Ended up having a C-section after 12 hrs. and he was 9 lbs 5 oz. Glad they didn't wait another week!!! I had absolutley no complications with my c-section and have elected to have another with this pregnancy. I am measuring 28 weeks and am only 25 weeks along.
Answer:

I was induced with my dd it did end is a c section but we knew that going into it and we wanted to try to go natural that is why I was induced due to size of my dd and my pelvis.

edit dd was 8lbs 15oz and was taken 11 days early.
Answer:

I have been. My first child was 9# 12 oz. even though she was over a wk early, so they monitored me closely with my second pregnancy. About a month before my due date they said baby #2 was already enormous, and if I didn't get induced he'd be between 12-14#. The OB GYN said "we've got to get that baby out of there". So they induced me 2 1/2 wks prior to due date and he was still 10# 2oz. although that early. So if they know baby is enormous, yes, they'll induce early.
Answer:

Ask them to do an ultrasound to verify the size - they thought ds was going to be big, based on my measurements, but he wasn't.
Answer:

They have done an ultrasound to verify and baby is BIG. And as far as measurments, I am 24 weeks, measuring at 28 weeks. Thanks for the input, I am going to talk to my doctor more next time about inducing. (even tho I think labor with Pitocin is the WORST thing ever!!)
Answer:

I was induced with both my girls -the 1st right on her due date, the 2nd one 2 wks early. I didn't have pitocin. I had that pill that they insert and everything went from there. I actually had quick easy births for being induced.
Answer:

Lets see if I can suprise anyone...

I had a 9 lb 10 oz baby at home with no drugs and she was 11 days (or 3 days if you use the ultrasound due date) overdue! My midwife was going to give me until the next day before we kicked started labor. She wasn't fat and she didn't look her weight - we all guessed 8 or 8.5 lbs before the midwife weighed her (me, DH, SILs labor and delivery nurse and doula). At her 1 month appointment she was in the 90th percentile.

If your baby is the same size or smaller than the last vaginal birth, I would think you would have no problem since the last baby cleared the path so to speak for this baby - but I'm no doctor.

Good luck and enjoy your pregnancy!
Answer:

I think the difference is how are you being induced? I was given pitosin with first b/c I wasn't having contrations after water broke (12 hrs later). that was long and painful. the last one I was given gel to induce the entire process. the gel was great. I did have to do it three times b4 it worked. the last one the reason being diabetes and they thought she was big, she wasn't. she was the smallest and none of mine were over 7.5 lbs even though I measured 9lbs.
