Ask:
My twenty one month old loves brushing his teeth. He's not so keen on letting us have the final brush but he still enjoys it. Maybe because we give him a new toothbrush every six months or so, so it keeps his interest up!
My three year old is pretty good. He really likes getting his teeth brushed except his back teeth. We norally have to scrub them pretty clean but all in all he's doing well. He is really good about us helping him out. He tells us when it's our turn. He got a battery operated Superman toothbrush for Christmas from Santa and has really enjoyed that!!
Answer:
My 4 yr old ds does really well, except I can't get him to spit. So we still have to use the fluride free toothpaste. I always brush them for him first at his evening brushing and then say now you finish up and get all the spots I missed.

My dentist advised us to lay the kids on a bed and brush their teeth that way when they were really young (under 2 years). Lying on a bed they can't squirm away in too many directions. My dd enjoyed brushing her own teeth but didn't like us to "help" each time. She wasn't doing a good enough job, even with our limited "help"- no cavitites, but some gum irritation that the dentist pointed out.
For about 6-7 months she cried off and on and fought us about the bed and getting a good brushing- but I kept telling myself I'd rather have a little crying at home than cavities. Now both kids are really good about it. They let me do the final brush- sometimes dd even runs and hops on the bed herself.
Answer:
my dd that is 22 months old loves getting and brushing her teeth. What we do is have 2 brushes for her and she continus to hold hers when we do the brushing and it works wonders. Someitmes if she is being a little cranky we just turn a little stream of water on and she will put her brush in it. my sil woks at a dentiest office and I guess there is this new tooth brush that will be coming on the market that will play music through vibration so if you are not using enough pressure as a kid when brushing the music wont turn on just when you have the right amount of pressure. I think that is a wonderful idea.
Answer:
My 2 years old also loves to brush- he does not like us to do it for him. What works for me and him is I tell him my turn first then he gets to brush them. He lets me brush then I hand it to him and tell him okay your turn to brush.
My 4 and 6 year old do fine- though I still brush my 4 years back teeth. We also go to the denist every 6 months from age 3 on.
Answer:
My twins are 4 1/2 and I still do virtually all the brushing for them. My dsd is 11 and I have seen what has happened over the years as her mother has neglected her teeth and turned the brushing over to her. Cavities/fillings in virtually every tooth. It's been a good (although sad, IYKWIM) reminder to me about not turning the responsibility over to children too early.
