Ask:
what happens if they swallow some ???
Answer:
I was told by our dentist that they would have to swallow a whole tube of toothpaste for there to be a problem.
Hope this helps.
Answer:
Not much. If it's a habit, their teeth can turn a bit gray (I believe it recovers) from flourosis (sp?). If they eat a lot they can get an upset tummy.
Answer:
Like Frazzled said they have to eat A LOT.
Answer:
And kids toothpast doesn't have as much as regular (I think).
Answer:
Just put a pea sized portion of toothpaste on the brush. That is not enough to do any damage at all. They would have to eat the entire tube to do damage.
Answer:
even though it's more expensive I kept mine on toddler toothpaste(no floride) until they were 5.

Answer:
A little won't hurt but keep it in a place where your kids cannot get to it. It is poisonous and harmful if they ingest a whole tube.
Answer:
If you do some research on this, you will see also that flouride can possibly cause thyroid issues for all ages. We tend to by the kind without flouride.
Answer:
A small amt ingested is really not a problem. Call your dentist if you're concerned about it though.
