Monthly Take Home

Ask:
I'm just curious (and i hope you guys don't think i'm trying to be nosey), but i'm wondering how much money is being brought in each month in your family.

Both my husband and I work full time and we still live paycheck to paycheck. *I know alot of you ladies are SAHM and only 1 income is coming in. *

I find it very interesting that people can live off of 1 income, i mean, we barely make it on 2 incomes. *Where i live, if you are a SAHM, your husband is making ALOT of money. *When i 1st came to here, i seriously thought it was a website for rich couples!!!!!!!

Like i said, i'm not trying to be nosey - you don't have to leave a comment - i just want to see where i land!

TIA - Jen

That was our entire reson to leave NJ...We make the same amount of $$ here (On 1 income instead of 2) , but are now able to own our own home and still pay for everything else. *Granted, just getting by, but definitly getting by with more....

Im a SAHM. We are one of the $3K-$4K families.. still living paycheck to paycheck! Fun fun fun!
Answer:

I'm in the $3K-$4K just for my salary. DH has his own business so the profits come to us and would put us in the over $5K bracket, and we're living I'd say comfortably.
Answer:

My DH brings in over 4K, before I took the voluntary layoff at work, I would bring home anywhere from $600-1800, depending on how much I flew, and if any of it was overtime. (I am a flight attendant) So by me not working, we're out my salary of over 36k a year.

Now baby #3 is on the way, and when we built this house it was understood I'd keep working. We did not anticipate the airline filing bankruptcy, and my schedule changing so I had to do overnight trips, or my dad getting so ill they couldn't help with the girls.

Now on this amount coming in, we watch what we spend, there isn't a lot for a lot of extras, but we're managing. Unless I get the chance to go back to flying, we plan for me to be home til the new baby is in school, unless I find a great part time job.
Answer:

I have less than $2000 coming in here as a single mom so yeah - it's tough.

Answer:

DH has CP and is limited in how many hours he can work and I am on year 4 of my fight for disability so we are in the under $1000 range. We were both working full time 10 dollar an hour jobs when we met now we are down to one part 8 dollar an hour job and the paper route
Answer:

I am a SAHM, living in rural Indiana, and after contributing to retirement, HSA etc etc. dh brings home about 2000. We live well but frugally. We have no car payments, paid off all our student loans and look for other ways to cut expenses so that we can afford for me to stay at home b/c to us it is a high priority. I did just start a part-time on call type job teaching for a Christian University. (they do classes once a night for any where between 4-8 weeks and it is whether I am "capable" of teaching the class) so that does help. My dh also does a lot of freelancing - he does video work (professional) so he will do conferences, jobs for Notre Dame and sometimes the occasional wedding etc etc. So this also helps to fill in holes. Oh, and my Mary Kay business has been a help too overall.

I keep trying to find new ways to save $$$$ b/c I really would like to get our house paid off sooner and be able to put more towards retirement etc etc.

Never the less...it CAN be done. What are you willing to sacrifice?

This is my problem.......i don't know where we spend the money. I really need to start keeping track. I mean, we don't have a house payment (we just pay $100 rent), we don't have a daycare bill (my mom watches her), we have 1 car payment (2 cars paid off), we don't have cable, my DH has a cell phone (and i know that's a luxury but i want him to have one and i like to take it if i'm traveling alone with my DD), no long distance. We do have 2 CC's - one we use (and pay off monthly) and the other isn't even activated but still has a balance. We live an hr. from the closest Target, Wal-Mart or anyother major stores or malls.

I just have to start keeping track and be more disciplined.
