Ask:
My daughter is 13 months old, she is still nursing about 5 times in a 24 hour period. I just got my first period while on Micronor (progestrone only pill.) Im assuming this means its not affective anymore? Has anyone experienced this?
Answer:
Yes, at about 13 months as well. I weaned her and started back on my old birth control pill. Ask your doctor for sure, if you want to continue breastfeeding DO IT but you need to use other protection unless you want another one already.
Answer:
I had the same question for my dr. I'm on Errin, which is a progestin (sp?) minipill because I'm nursing. My dd is 16.5 mos. old and I had my first period last month, since she's been born). I also had had breakthrough bleeding the last 2 mos., so I was worried it wasn't effective. I'm 44, so I really shouldn't have another pregnancy. She didn't see it as a problem, although it would be on "normal" pills. I am not familiar with your brand, so you may want to call in the ?? to your Dr.
Answer:
Yep, as soon as you get that period it is time to get off the mini pill. I have been on it three times until I got my periods again.
Answer:
What is the point of the mini pills then, if you are taking them until a period only? You get pregnant BEFORE a period...it is the building up of the uterus that causes one. I'm confused on why bothering with the mini pill at all?
Answer:
The combination of nursing and the progestrone only pill is supposed to supress your cycle. I guess the problem is it only works for so long.
Answer:
I would call and talk to you doc or a nurse in the office. My doctor that I went to was very cool and basicly told me when dd was about 8-10 months and as soon as she cut back on nursing/introduting solid to call to be put back on a reg pill. I am suprised that some OBGYNs don't tell you things like this.. or you wait till you get your 1st period to me that doesn't sound like being proactive in your patients wishes and reasoning for being on the pill.
Answer:
HUH???? I have been on Micronor 2X and continued taking it until I finished nursing...which wasn't until my kids turned 3 y.o. ( they only nursed before bed for the last year.) I was told to stay on it the entire time I was nursing....yes I still got periods...with ds when he was 13 months and with dd when she was 15 months. let me tell you that I did not get pregnant while i was on it and I'm about as fertile as women come-! I get pregnant the 1st time every time ( I've been preggo 4X but lost 2) I've never heard of anyone going off it when they get thir 1st period and I have many long time nursing friends. If you go on the regular pill your child will get the extra hormones through your milk and it may decrease your production.
