I am looking forward to the New Year as an opportunity to bring up my Simple Living grade, .
I really want to curb needless spending dramatically and work on using up my stores (scrapbook supplies, crayons, markers, paper, KIDS CLOTHING, gifts-in-waiting).
I also really want to continue decluttering and get down to having only the things we need, love and use.
There are certain times I know I will want to spend (Target toy clearance in Jan and July, homeschooling books and supplies, consumable gifts for certain birthdays and holidays)- I'm hoping I will have the resolve to "buy" in my stash first, then try for used things second, then buy new only if I have to.
This is going to be tough, but I really want to do this.

I got the bug to go browse at our used book store today (actually was looking for a used copy of Five in a Row... didn't find it. darn.) anyway, I got a few good homeschooling books with our trade credit, so didn't spend any money. That's the way to go when I have the 'urge' to spend.
I am really hoping to stick with my grand plan. I am bagging up a bunch of clothing to either donate/yard sale. I have much more to purge...

I also second everything you said. I have got to get the clutter under control at our house or its going to take over! We are going to try to simplify and save this year. I want to pay off our ATV and my car this year and all the credit cards! Yikes. We're going to do our best at it anyway.
There are only a few things I'm going to shop for. I've been waiting for Target to go 90% off on their Christmas so I'm spending money there but its a great deal and I get wrapping and gift things to use all year long so really not too bad.
I'm going to try to make as many gifts as I can this year and only buy when I have to...EX: 3 year old neice birthday.
DH and I have a few major purchases we also want to make, new fridge (ours is going out I'm afraid very soon) a new sofa (ours was my SIL's and the cats used to live INSIDE it, and dh wants a new TV so were saving money for those and will get the tv for an anniversary present (our 1st anniversary is in April)
I've been boxing up stuff and intend to have a yard sale once it warms up some so that will help with our purchases.
