Eczema and fomula. Which brand have you tried?

Ask:
Hi. My son is about 5 months old and I recently started giving my son formula (Good Start milk based formula) at night and noticed that his eczema flares up. He starts crying an hour after I give it to him and starts rubbing his face really bad and then I notice that he gets red all over. I called the doctor who told me that it was the formula that caused that reaction and told me to try other formulas, including soy. But I thought that when you have eczema, you should avoid things such as soy, milk based products, eggs, peanuts and wheat. The Dr. said that soy formula will not necessarily affect his eczema but recommended that I try Similac Alimentum, Enfamil ProSobee Lipil or Nutramigen.

Has anyone tried using these formulas with a baby who has eczema? Should I try a soy formula? I'm afraid of hearing him cry out in pain again. Thanks for any suggestions.
Answer:

Gosh, my 8 yr old son had terrible eczema when he was a baby and no one ever suggested it was the formula!!! We finally cured it with Eucerin lotion after trying every perscription available!! I would try the soy if you want. I have never heard of eczema being related to diet, though and I have had 6 boys with it!
Answer:

My granddaughter had bad eczema. The doctor said to change her to soy formula. We used Wal Mart's brand of soy. She is 6 now and I don't remember the name of it but I'm sure that still have a cheap brand of soy at Wally's World. It did help her break outs. Her little bottom was what we had so much trouble with. It was not a yeast infection it was always a bacterial infection. I have seen her bottom so red it had cracks in it. Also we had a lot of trouble with her hands cracking. Good luck.
Answer:

My daughter suffered from severe eczema as an infant. She was breastfed, but the doctors we saw never told me I needed to monitor or change my diet. I spent a lot of time and money on lotions and looking for solutions. After several doctors and visits we were put in touch with a pediatric dermatologist. He informed me that it was unlikely food related, pet related, or an allergy. He recommended using plain old fashioned vaseline with no fragrance for her dry skin, unscented laundry detergent and cetaphil soap(Wal-Mart carries Equate brand for less) for baths. I know how frustrating eczema is especially when you can't find something that helps. Keep trying and I'm sure you will find something that works.
