Ask:
So I am 15 wks 2 days. I had an appointment Dec. 20th, I was 13wks then, and heard the heartbeat which really helped to make this feel real!! I haven't had any morning sickness, no nothing!! Just my belly already starting to pop! Which sure seems early to me but this is my 3rd pregnancy. As soon as my midwife put the doppler on my belly she got the heartbeat right away, she even said that was the best heartbeat she has ever heard from a 13 wk. Then after that she felt my uterus, and asked if it's possible we have the wrong due date. I'm thinking great I'm not as far along as I thought, but oh well, she says that my uterus feels bigger than a 13 wk and more like a 15 wk. But I am positive when AF showed up!! She said it could be that I am 15 wks, twins or that my uterus is just bigger this time cuz it's #3. Twins do not run in either of mine or dh's families, so I'm thinking my uterus is just bigger.
So my question is those of you with more than 1 pregnancies, did your Dr ever think or say they thought your uterus was measuring bigger than what the EDD should be? And what was the result? Were you actually due sooner or just had a bigger uterus?
I am just curious if this is normal to have a larger uterus with multiple pregnancys. TIA!!!
Answer:
Ohh I should add that I think my uterus is just below my bellybotton, or about an inch, which would make me around 18-19 wks. I know I had my period cuz I took a pregnany test just before I got it and it came out neg.
Since I am feeling so well my midwife wants to wait till 1/23ish to do an ultrasound. I'm going crazy!!
Answer:
I have always measured bigger during my pregnancies, but especially with my first boy. My babies are just big, so maybe that is the case. My little boy was 9 pounds and they took him a week early!
Answer:
I am shocked you didn't have an ultrasound! I measure big, too, and they always do ultrasounds on me...cause they want to make sure of just how many babies are in there!!
Answer:
This is happening to me right now. At 11 weeks I wasnt measuring any bigger, but had an ultrasound done to confirm my dates. (I got pregnant while on The Ring) At that point I was fine as far as size. Then starting at 16 weeks I began measuring 4 cm too big. Or an entire month ahead as far as the doctors were concerned.
I had another ultrasound b/c they knew my dates were accurate from my previous ultrasound. They wanted to be sure I didnt have too much amniotic fluid. The test was fine and the docs are just saying this is a big baby (It is my third too... My second in less than two years) B/c I had trouble delivering my last (9 lbs) they are going to check me at 36 weeks and either do a c section or induce me depending on the size.
I'm surprised they didnt do an ultrasound! Maybe next time!
Answer:
I measured larger than I was my whole pregency with my dd, all they did was kept an eye on things to make sure she was developing as she should be and kept an eye on her weight in the end. I was induuced a week early just because I was trying to avoid a c section.
Answer:
Unitl they do an ultrasound to confirm size, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I measured "normal" my entire pregnancy and they told me my baby would probably be between 7 and 7 1/2 pounds the entire pregnancy, even while I was in labor. My baby was 8 pounds, 10 ounces on the due date.
My sister was told that she was measuring early the entire time and that her baby would probably be 9 or 10 pounds. He was 7 pounds, 6 ounces, 2 days before her due date. Unless they do an ultrasound it is mostly guessing since everyone gains weight different ways and their baby and uterus lay different ways.
Answer:
Well with my other 2 I never measured bigger, actually I measured smaller, even ultrasound was smaller. My first was 7lbs 11oz and 2nd was 7lbs 1oz. I mentioned to my midwife that maybe this baby is just bigger and she said she didn't think so. At 13 wks it's too early for the baby to actully measure that much bigger without the due date being off or twins. She said that my uterus just did not match up with my EDD.
I have been reading one book that goes wk by wk, (yeah I know I should be a pro since this is my 3rd lol) and reading it, it sounds like my body is going through all those wonderful things at 18-19 wk. I really don't think it's twins, I just feel strongly that this is 1 boy. But I can't imagine being that much further along, KWIM? I know I really don't need to stress about it since I have 3 wks till the ultrasound. And I am probably just a bit further along, but still... since she had to mention twins I was just courious about what others went through and what your results were.
Answer:
I measured bigger with all of my kiddos. it was usually about 2 weeks bigger. I was also diabetic for all of them. even with ultrasound I measured bigger. they thought dd #1 was 9lbs, she was 7lbs 2oz. dd#2 measured 9+ lbs, she was 7lbs 6oz, dd #3 they made sure she was delivered asap( i was doing the gel induction) b/c they thought she could be close to 10lbs, she was 7lbs 4oz. I had untold number of ultrasounds due to high risk. they nevr got it right. I even had the more elaborate one, sorry can't think of the name. 3D was not around with first two and with last one I didn't worry about what they told me.

Answer:
I measured about a week smaller with my first pregnancy pretty much the entire time. She also came 2 weeks late and was 8 lbs 5 oz.
With my second pregnancy, I felt like I was popping out right away too. I actually started wearing maternity shorts and stuff at about 6-1/2 weeks because I couldn't stand anything even remotely tight touching my belly. I saw the midwife at 8 weeks, and she told me my uterus was measuring 10-1/2 to 11 weeks. Because I wasn't entirely sure of my LMP, she wanted me to have the ultrasound right away to confirm the due date. The earlier the u/s, the more accurate your EDD will be.
At the ultrasound the next morning, I found out I was having twins! It was very strange because I had suspected twins all along, but when I said something to my dh, he said, "But, twins don't run in our families." Well, apparently that didn't matter! I later read that identical twins don't run in families. They occur spontaneously. It's fraternal twins that run in families, and it only matters on the mother's side because it would be your predisposition to releasing more than one egg.
I'd still see if you can have the u/s earlier though. Sometimes measuring bigger can be an indicator of something, and sometimes not, but my personal belief is that it's better to know sooner rather than later. Good luck!
Oh, and I should also add that the more kids you have and the older you are, also increase your chances of having fraternal twins!
