Ask:
When did you start teaching your child to tie their shoes?
Answer:
You know I really don't remember, but I would have to guess 4 or 5, I am pretty sure it was before they went off to kindergarten.
On a side note, you have no idea how much stuff like this comes up in my house...lol. With having a 14 and 11 yr old, and now the baby. I am always asking myself these questions, or my dh asks, when do they do "this"?? And I have a hard time remembering.
Guess I should have been better about keeping a baby book, full of all of this useful information.
Answer:
This is too funny, Christy! Riley is in kindergarten, and he FINALLY learned this weekend! LOL My oldest was actually just 3 when she learned, but the others have all been 4-5 years old. Do you know the bunny ear trick? All but Riley learned it doing it that way. He prefered making a tree and having the bunny go around and under it!
Answer:
My oldest was in kindergarten when he started trying, but I don't think he really got it until he was in first grade. I haven't even started trying to teach my youngest yet!
Answer:
I think my 3 boys were all in kindergarten when they started tying! They are too stubborn. They still hate it and will slip their shoes off and on if possible. My oldest learned when she was 4 as did my other dd. My oldest ds never learned how. He said there was no reason. He had velcro tennis shoes, winter boots and sandals, why should he waste his time learning to tie??? LOL!!!He died when he was 6 1/2 and never learned.
Answer:
I am working with my kindergartner on it now. However his shoes are velcro type so we are using my shoes. Its so hard to be patient but I am trying!!!

This is so us! The patient factor is hard for me. She always wants to wear her "tie" shoes (she only has one pair) when we are in the biggest hurry to get out the door. She is working working working on it, but it is so hard for her to get.
Any tips on what you guys have found the easiest way to teach? Come to find out Dh and I were working on different ways and verbage and mixing the poor child up
Answer:
My kindergartener still has no clue how to tie his shoes. We try to work with him and he just gets so frustrated and ends up in tears. So, for this year he will wear velcro, and when his fine motor skills catch up we will make the switch.
Answer:
One dd was in 1st grade, the other 2 were in 2nd grade when it finally sunk in. DS uses the double bunny ear method, which I dont get but it seems to work for him. Its one of those things - when it clicks in their head how to do it, they'll do it. Before that it will be very frustrating for all parties involved.
