When are kids old enough to bathe themselves?

Ask:
I can't seem to remember when my older kids started doing this. My 9 yr old still wants me to do all of it, though and it seems like he is getting a bit old for that. Maybe he is just lazy?
Answer:

My 9 yo DD started a couple years ago. She still needs constant reminders that she NEEDS to bathe () - but when she gets in she does it herself.
My 5 yo does most by herself. I still have to help with her hair (as it is semi-long) but the rest she does by herself. I still hang out in the bathroom to make sure parts get washed....but I don't really help anymore.

OMG I have to tell you the funniest story.....I think my DS was about that age 9 and he had been showering on his own for a while....well, he had gone in to take a shower and comes out...so I ask.."Did you wash your hair?" he says yes...I say "with shampoo?"...he say ugh...and goes and gets back in the shower....he comes out again...I say did you wash your hair....yes...with shampoo...yes....did you wash your body...yes...with soap...he says ugh..and goes and gets back in. yes he got in three times by the time he was done, but he did do it all himself...LOL.

But to this day, I always ask him if he used shampoo and soap..LOL!!
Answer:

My kids started to like to take showers around the age of 5. Sometimes playing in the tub for a little while and then letting out the water and taking a shower to wash hair and body, do their own thing. Just depends on the kid I suppose.
Answer:

mine is almost five and I cant get her to wash her own hair, heck I can hardly get her to let me wash it. I get so impatient when she cries while I wash her hair I wish we could get past it already. Its so bad I dont wash it as often as I should.
Answer:

My 7 y.o. ds has been getting a shower by himself since he turned 7. Once in awhile though he doesn't get all the shampoo out of his hair...I had to show him at least 5 times how much shampoo to use...he was using a whole hadnful-LOL! My 4 y.o. dd would love to wash herself all the time...so she washes her front and I do her back...and her hair too! It's so long she would never be able to wash it herself.
Answer:

Most children develop a sense of privacy about their bodies around the age of 7. Some kids are much younger, like my little one who is 5 yrs old. And some kids are older, like your son at age 9. However, 9 yrs old is plenty old enough to shower by themself.
Answer:

As long as I turn the water on, my 4 year old can get in and wash and rinse her hair and herself alone. She also can turn the water off when she is done. I don't do it this way often, just because with six kids, usually a few are in there together or with dh or myself, but she CAN do it if I need her to.
Answer:

Wow, now I am feeling real bad! I bathe my 9yr old, 8 yr old and almost 7 yr old sons!!! My 8 yr old insists that I leave the room while he undresses and dresses though.
Answer:

My son just started when he turned 7 to shower by himself. All I do is turn on the water and adjust the temperature til he like it. He has a buzz cut, so the shampooing is really easy for him. He also gave up his nightlight in his room.....my little boy is growing up! :0(
