Ask:
I often hear of people buying kids clothes a year in advance to save money. This is my first child, and I have no idea what size he will be this time next year.
He is 11 months, 25 pounds and wears 18 months right now, assuming the brand is Gap or The Childrens Place etc.
What size do you think I should buy for next winter?
Answer:
Oh I wouldnt know what to tell you there.
I have always heard that also but my kids are bigger than the average kids so I dont want to risk it really.
I guess if he was to big for them you call always selll them on ebay.
But 11months and 25 lbs, sounds about like my son and he was in a size 3t shirts and 2t pants when he was 2, I would have never have guessed it!
Answer:
I find that Gap and Children's Place sizes are a perfect fit, meaning that I didn't have to size up or down so next year winter, you'd be looking at a 2T. I often bought clothes this way but sizing is harder when they are still little and growing so fast.
Answer:
That's what I was thinking, 2T
Answer:
I also was going to say 2T, right now he may appear to be a bit on the bigger size for his age (no offense is meant by that! They all seem to do this at his age!)- but by next year he will be running everywhere and he will thin down some and get taller.
Answer:
my dd is 13 months and I bought her 24 months because she is on the smaller side she is wearing 12 months now and I safety pin them. I did this with my ds too.if he is in 18 months now I would go with 2T
Answer:
Remember too that kids grow during the winter - I would guess he might be in a 2T next fall but by late winter be in a 3T. I always erred on the bigger size - you can always roll up sleeves and pant legs if need be and he'll certainly grow into them at some point. Don't overbuy either at this point. If you get some clothes ahead at really good prices then you can always fill in with a few other clothes bought on sale next year.

No offense taken at all. DS is tall but doesn't seem pudgy compared to other kids. I think 3T might be better
Answer:
I was thinking that 36months/3T might be a good option. At the age he will be next fall/winter you can still get away with cuffing the pants and rolling sleeves.
Answer:
Hi! Bryce will be 2 in February so he is just about a year older than your little guy- right? He has always been tall (90th percentile) and was in 18 months sizes last year at this time. This winter he wears 3t shirts (some 2t still fit) and 2t pants. He has gotten long and lean and the 3t pants just fall down and are a bit long. I think he is longer in the torso. I called a friend with a boy 11 months older than Bryce last year and asked her what size her little guy was in- he has always been in the same percentile as Bryce - so that I could stock up on things at the winter clearance sales. It worked well for shirts but he is still not in the pants yet because I bought 3t. My main advice would be 3t for winter but if you get things that are not too seasonal like jeans, track pants, hoodies and long sleeve t-shirts then it won't matter what season they fit because you can use those things year round and then supplement with t-shirts and shorts for summer. Did I make any sense? I have had great luck buying ahead by not getting things too specific like a wool snowflake sweater that ends up fitting him in August! Also- they do slow down in growth a bit around the 1st birthday- he has things that I bought just a little big last winter (one cuff roll-up) that he has been wearing for a year now - we just don't roll the sleeves now!
Hope this essay helps!
