My oldest in kindergarten still can't tie his shoes. I've tried teaching him and we both get so frustrated. What am I doing wrong? Is there some 'trick' to teaching your child this?? I'm sure its my fault because up until school started, I've always bought him shoes that have velcro or can just slip into. If anyone can provide me any insight on this, please do so! Thanks so much!

Have someone else show him!!! I tried and tried to teach my ds to tie and he wouldn't. My daycare lady tried too, to no avail. Then the kindergarten teacher told him he needed to do it, and showed him. Boom!!!! He could tie!

For us, it was really practicing, practicing, practicing. I refused to buy my kids velcro or slip on shoes until they learned to tie properly. Yes, they did get frustrated occasionally but they did learn rather quickly!

I agree with Happymom)l....I tried with DD, to no avail...1 day with my Dad and she was tying her own shoes...I'm sending DS to him next!
You can also try making it fun (rabbit ears and all that, but I can't for the life of me remember how it goes.....) Sorry, I'm no help!
