Ask:
I don't mean to sound rude, I just have no information on this matter. How old was your child when he or she was diagnosed and what are some of the red flags? Please let me know! Thanks!
Answer:
Here is a website with a ton of info
Answer:
I knew something wasn't right around two years old when my DS speech went from on target expressive and receptive language to nothing. He just stopped talking. We got speech therapy but still nothing changed. Then he started lining up trucks, popcorn, strawberries. IT was then that we insisted they get us an evaluation.
Finally outcome, Autism. I hope this help answered some of your questions.
Answer:
I didn't know my child was on the spectrum until he was officially undergoing diagnosis. I only knew that he got obsessed, had some OCD, had to have things a certain way, and definitely had sensory issues. He didn't have interests like other kids, like riding a bike, playing ball, etc., and I was OK with that, but he couldn't be around other rambunctious kids for long. It was only when I was trying to find a preschool, and recognized that he had to touch others, like even hugging stranger kids upon meeting them, so I would ask the preschools about that being a problem. The Montessori nearby was a joke in that area. Autism never occurred to me. He didn't rock, was very verbal, etc. I'd heard of Aspergers and thought my nephew had it (still do think so), but didn't realize real differences until I was trying to qualify him for free preschooling in the school district on the advice of a friend. I didn't know how out of the "norm" he was. And then, when I did finally ask the school for a suggestion on a dev. ped., my eyes were really opened on their testing and dx.
