Ask:
The little guy I babysit had his 12 month shots on Tuesday. WITH Motrin, he still has a fever of 100.2....and that is the lowest it has gone. I feel so bad for him. He has slept in my lap all day. When I put him down, he cries and cries. At one point, his hands were BLUE and he was shaking all over...and his temp was WAY on up there!
His dad is on the way to get him. I sure hope he feels better soon.
Answer:
Oh my gosh the poor thing. I hope he feels better.
My little one gets a fever, and it usually lasts a few hours, once she has the tylenol and takes a nap ( a long one ) she is fine.
Answer:
DD runs a fever for 1-2 days w/tylenol or motrin with every round of shots! Her 1st ones after we left the hospital she spiked to 102 (was that 2 weeks, 1mth or 2mths?). Anyway, it was Friday night and we were new parents and freaking out.
Answer:
My kids have gotten slight fevers and been whiny with shots, but nothing too extreme. I think if the fever doesn't go down in 24 hours they want to see them at the ER.
Answer:
Mine never ran a fever with there shots. If my baby was shaking withblue hands and lathargic I would take him back to the DR. or at least call! I definately would have stayed home with him myself!
Answer:
Jennifer, I would advise him to call the Dr. right away. This could be a sign of an allergy, which I've heard of, especially if it's affecting his circulation. I would even have him call the after-hours number and not mess with it, just in case. It's hard being a first time parent - you don't want to seem over-anxious, yet you want your child as comfortable as possible. Poor thing.
Answer:
My 3-year old ran fevers with his shots (as high as 102.5) but my 15-month old son does not. The 3-year old is prone to running high fevers when he's sick though so I tend to think that's why he ran fevers after his shots.
I want to say that one of the 12 month shots (is it the MMR or chicken pox?) is notorious for causing higher fevers, but I'm not sure. I hope he feels better soon. As long as the fever goes down with Motrin (it doesn't necesarrily need to be normal for the Motrin to be doing its job) there shouldn't be anything to worry about. But I agree that his parents might want to call the doctor's office just to be on the safe side (blue hands sound a bit odd).
