Answer:
Good question!! When my ds has pajamas on he holds on to like he's gonna lose it.
Answer:
When my 6 year old was 3, he actually STAPLED his! A week later, he colored it BLACK! OMG. We went through the rounds with him. The dr, after he quit crying from laughing so hard, told us that all boys go through phases of doing this...some early, some late. The biggest thing was to work on not HURTING IT (laughter again and some snorting on the dr. part), and that they have to learn if they want to touch, they do it in private.
You might consider a chart with stickers...smilies and frownies...or something like that. Everytime you catch him doing it, give him a frownie, and everytime he goes a day without doing it, he gets a smilie. Reward him with something he has been wanting..or my children get a huge thrill out of a mystery prize that I will actually wrap like a birthday present and place up out of their reach!
I don't think you need to worry about the pjs or the underwear. I think it is really just something that has become a habit! (Oh, and my ds NEVER does that, to the best of my knowledge anymore...and if he is doing it in private, well, that is what he is supposed to do!)
Answer:
Ask him if it itches. My son's does. I put him in loose underwear - tightness makes it worse, and give him jock powder. I also have cream from the Dr. that helps when it's bad - I think it's Nystatin, but you can try Lamosil first.
