Okay, don't judge, but at my house, I just put a handful right in front of them on the carpet! Why? Well, if I put it in a bowl, they end up dumping it anyhow, and they make a bigger mess! I vacuum SEVERAL times a day anyhow, on top of cleaning the carpets often (I own a shampooer!), so I know the floor is pretty clean.
A friend of mine came over recently, though, and she was appalled at me! So, what do you think?

I admit I would not do that but mainly because we have a dog who is always shedding! Nothing worse than a mouthful of dog hair. I guess because I do daycare I try to keep things as routine as possible and that means snacking at the table. Hey whatever works for you is fine!

I put it in a bowl- and yes sometimes I wonder why. Though it is because as soon as it gets dumped- I have the "dumper" pick it up right away. IMO they need to learn how to eat and use manners and this is just the start.

As my kids have gotten older, I do get better! This is just when they are at that 1 year old age...and this will give me three minutes of piece that locking them in the highchair doesn't..cause all of mine have not liked the highchair at this age!

I was a big believer in snacks at the table too. Even now I try to get my 9 yr old to have snacks at the table. Just makes less mess everywhere. My DS never got upset about the high chair though - we used it in fact until he was 3!

We only eat at the table and most of the time I put them in a bowl, but every now and then when all the bowls are dirty for example I will put the snack directly on the table. We have a dog and even with all the vacuuming I do I still couldn't put food on the floor.

I don't know if you have thought of this. But, dust mites live in anywhere that skin cells are. Just scratching and moving can release these cells and I don't think vacuming would get all those little critters. Carpet is a good breeding area for lots of germs. I definately would not put the snack directly on the floor. Maybe get a heavy bowl if they have to eat in there as opposed to the table. Even the dog gets a bowl! !!!!!!

I think if it works for you - go for it. I marvel at how well you manage to raise six kids! So, if putting some treats on the floor gives you 3 minutes of peace and quiet, you deserve it! It's not going to hurt them.
