Ask:
My friends and I went to tea today! We were talking about when it gets warmer that we could all meet up and walk the trail. I have a 4yr old and a 14 month old. I know my 4yr old won't last walking on his own for 4 miles. Is he too big for a stroller though? I was thinking of picking up a double!
Answer:
My then four year old used a stroller, but only when we went places like you are describing. He walked until he got tired and then climbed on in the stroller.
I would recommend getting a used one. It was the best $50 investment I ever made!!
Have fun walking!
Answer:
Well my three and a half year old is too tall for any stroller other an a jogger, and I wish she wasnt. So I would say if youre going to use it enough and they fit the weight/height requirements it would be worth it.
Answer:
I used to have a stroller that had a regular seat in the fron and a little bench type seat and place to stand in the back. I used if for a long time.
Answer:
she's talking about the sit and stand, I have one, love it. It would be good for your situation b/c your 4 yr old would be cramped in a regular stroller! Good luck
Answer:
I would also get the sit n stand. I wish I had gotten that rather than a double umbrella stroller. I do love the one I have, but I think the sit n stand would have been a better investment.
Answer:
i have the sit and stand also. its great for my DD (3.5ys) and DS (3.5mo). Before DS came along i would use it when caring for my neice (1yrs).
Answer:
I have a double jogger and both boys sit comfortably in it. It is GREAT for outdoor hikes and stuff. And like some of the others suggested, the four year old can walk until he's tired and then jump in the stroller!!!
Answer:
I have two suggestions that might work for you, I have both of these and love them both for this kind of thing. I have one of those trailers that go on the back of a bike, mine converts into a stroller and is big enough for both my kidos who are 2 and 7 to ride in. The weight total is like 100 pounds. The other thing I use is a kids wagon, ours is a big one with plenty of room for both. Mine has actual little seats for each kid, a drink holder for each and a little place to hold a cooler under one of the seats. We use ours all the time and only spent about 70 dollars on it.
Answer:
I agree, I wouldn't invest in a double stroller. However, we do have a bike trailer that can fit two kids if we need to. Heck, it has held three!
But to answer your question, I don't think a 4 yr old is too old for a stroller, but he is getting close. I know it doesn't seem likely now, but my child is 5-yrs old and she did a women's health walk with me last summer (at least 4 miles - part of it up hill). Her endurance has increased so much in just one year.
I have held onto the last stroller we own, just in case. When my daughter and her friend were out and about we would lower the seatback and they would both sit on the stroller "snow-sled style". Hey, if they're tired, they'll do it. I didn't mind that it was inconvenient for them. I wanted to them to use the stroller only when they were very tired. This summer will be the last test of the stroller's use. If it doesn't come in handy this summer, I'll get rid of it.
That said, I think if I was dealing with a 4-yr old, I would invest in a tricycle with a push bar option. That way the little one can ride their bike while you're walking and if he gets tired, you can push.
Does your friend have kids? If your girlfriend has a very young one like your 14-month old, only then would I consider a double stroller. If you are considering another stroller, I highly recommend that you avoid the baby-store strollers and look seriously at the strollers that are available in outdoor recreation stores. There is a huge difference in quality and price!
