Question on 3 month old

Ask:
My DS just turned 3 months and all he wants to do is stand on his legs. Is he too young for this? My mom said that it could damage his spine.
Answer:

Oh the moms and their wives tales. My mil tried to tell me the same, and told me not to let ds sit up. It won't hurt their spines, unless you have them do it all day long with no rest! It's great exercise to let them get in all different positions. He is practicing, and is learning to control his body. Enjoy it now, before he uses it to get mobile!
Answer:

Trying to stand on his legs is probably a way of trying to feel secure. Babies are used to being bunched up and having their feet against something. My babies always had their feet against my ribs (pre & postnatal). I've never heard that it would damage their spine.
Answer:

It won't hurt his spine. My 3 year old would always do that when you held him up (it's actually a normal reflex in newborns but usually goes away then comes back when it's time to learn to walk. My son's just never went away). For the record, his spine is perfectly fine.
Answer:

I have heard that keeping them in stand up toys like an exersaucer can damage their hips... but I think that's in cases where bad moms / childcare providers leave the kid in it all day (i.e. pretty extreme)

I wouldn't worry about it, it sounds like you have an early walker on your hands :P
Answer:

My pediatrician actually told me to get my little girl one of those exercausers, she would stand on my legs to the point that I was covered in bruises. I got Isabell an execauser and she loved it, but the other moms are right only leave him in it for a little amount of time.
Answer:

My kids stood alot and they are all just fine!!
Answer:

Thank you all for reassuring me. My mom makes me worry sometimes.
Answer:

We put ds in an exersaucer around 3 mos. I didn't t hink he was ready - but he loved it!
Answer:

My mother always told me that my kids would be bow-legged from letting them stand up too much, which is totally ridiculous! Both of mine are just fine! Don't let her worry you, I second the exersaucer idea, they are worth their weight in gold!
