Ask:
We started our 3 1/2 year old on some Playhouse Disney internet computer games. He seemed to really like them. He has a V-smile and has expressed a bit more of an interest in that lately but not until just recently. Some of the games we have are a little too advanced for him, I think, but then again, I don't know what would be advanced to a 3 1/2 year old!!!
So tell me, how computer/video game savvy are your kids?
Answer:
I try to keep my 3 yr old away from the computer and the video games!!!!! I was just telling my dh we really should get something for him to use. My older boys were on the computer or video games alot when they were littler and we did not have any problems and they are really good at it. I just am not sure I want to deal with Lukey, unfortunately he will probably do something he is not supposed to, and break something!! It just kinda is his personality
Answer:
My kids (4 & 7) play Vsmile, Playstation, Xbox and computer games (both online and installed games). They feel like big stuff and I know when they are playing Vsmile, they are learning things.
Answer:
Nope. No interest here. My kids are older but when they were small, they weren't that interested either. Both of my boys have gameboys but they only use them on trips or during times like waiting between events for swim meets or something like that. Even then, they're not that interested. Thankfully IMO, I'd rather have them reading a book or running around playing outside. DH and I have zero interest in computer games. I have a friend whose husband is very interested in playing video/computer games and frankly, I find him juvenile. No offense to anyone that plays video/computer games.
Answer:
Growing up we never had video games nor did we miss them. Wait, that's not true. One Christmas I got the table top Ms. Pacman and my brother got Pacman. But other than that we didn't have Atari or Nintendo or any of that. Computer games were lame at the time so that was never introduced to us.
I just feel that because computers are so relevant to every day things, our kids need to be introduced to them so much earlier and more frequently than we were. Dh just this past weekend put our 3 1/2 year old on teh computer for the first time and he loved it. Playhouse Disney has cute games where they can interact with their favorite characters.
Answer:
Yes my kids were exposed at a young age with limits. We had some toddler and preschool games that they played (we didn't have internet then). We had a great fisher price toddler one. It was very easy for them to use, as they could just hit any key and it would do it's thing.
You may also want to check out pbskids.org also.
I think that it is good for the eye hand coordination.
My kids love the computer and games. They have even taken to typing stories and such on their own.
Answer:
Both my kids play computer games and they are 6 and 3. They both play the Playhouse Disney games and my ds has a train simulator game that he likes to play. My ds also play nintendo, playstation and xbox. We do put a limit on how long he can play the games and set a timer for him and also what types of games he can play either at home or at his friends house. Honestly though I dont worry about it too much as he will usually choose reading, playing outside or playing w/ legos over video games.
Answer:
All of my kids are pretty good on the computer. They are 4, 5, 8 and 10. They all also have Leapsters. As far as video games, they aren't happeneing in this house.
Answer:
My 4 year old dd loves her leapster, vsmile and playing games on the fisher price website. My 2 year old has become pretty interested in dd's leapster but I don't really think she understands how to play. I think she just likes it cuz dora is on it.
Answer:
My older son, 4 1/2, has no interest at all in the computer. He'd rather be outside on his bike or jumping on his trampoline. My younger son, 3, likes games on Noggin.com and sesamestreet.com. He also has a Tonka Rescue game that he has recently gotten VERY interested in. He's very good at using the mouse now. My BIL got the boys the Leapster TV, but I am not happy with it and my little one got too frustrated. Maybe over the summer or when he's closer to 4 in the Fall, we'll try again or I'll get him the handheld one. DH has an Xbox, but rarely uses it. I've never played anything on it myself. I like some of the online Yahoo/Shockwage games like Diner Dash. It's mindless and relaxing for me!
