Ask:
With my first dd I used Gerber. With 2nd dd I used Playtex with the liners. This time I do not want the liner bottles (too much of a monthly expense). I loved the Gerbers, (the simple old style ones) but Gerber isn't producing them.
I am thinking about using Avent and wanted to know what you ladies think? Are there any other ones youve used and liked?
The baby will be exclusively bottle fed.
Answer:
I used Advent and loved them. The only thing that you have to watch with them is to not over tighten them or they will leak. That is how the air get out of them so don't over tighten and you will be set. My sisters both used Dr. Brown's I think that is what they are called and loved them I was going to use them but they looked like a hassle to clean.
Answer:
I liked/used the Playtex ventaire (sp?)
The advent bottles were to me too big in the width- it was hard to hold
Answer:
I used the playtex nursers with my first 3 boys and then switched to the Advent bottles for my daughter...I loved the Advent and wish I would have had them for the older kids!! what's great about the Advent's too is that they double as a training cup just by switching the top and you can add the handles. Not only that...babies can hold the fatter bottle better, IMO
Answer:
Both my kids have preferred the hospital pacifiers and I was lucky to find them in the stores. Well now they have a bottle I think it's called Soothies.
Answer:
We switched from Avent to the Playtex Liners. The liners were great because you don't get as much air. We found the Avent bottles made my son to colicy. He would gulp quickly and he would get too much air.
Answer:
I nursed my kids for the most part, and I used playtex disposables for any bottle use. However, the little guy I keep used Advent. I agree that they are great as long as you watch for leaks....and OVER a sink! My sister has a baby due in March, and she is planning to use these, too!
Answer:
I liked the Avent. I did have them leak, though, I didn't know about the over-tightening. That would have been nice to know!! Check though if the diaper bag you plan on using will accommodate the thicker bottles. Some of mine did and some of mine didn't. Oh and I used the newborn nipple all through ds first year. I tried the next one once and he also gulped too fast, so we just kept using the newborn nipple!
Answer:
We use Dr. Browns and I love them! With the other we used Avent but with Lily they just didnt work.
Answer:
We used the palytex nursers with both of our babies. I liked that I could carry one bottle and then just carry some liners with formula powder already in them and a few extra nipples. Also, we switched briefly to the ventair because they are bigger and ds started having an upset stomach. It went away when we switched back to the nurser.
Avent now makes a disposable liner system as well. I would have probably used that if it had been available.
I didn't find the cost that much with the disposables. I always bought the walmart brand liners. It wasn't really a budget buster for us.
