Ask:
I'm watching this right now and it's just gut wrenching to watch this boy and his family. All that they've gone through with him missing for 4 years. So sad. Anyone else see it?
Answer:
I watched it. It is so sad. I noticed he had some interesting body language. Did you notice he would only look at his dad? I missed who the aunt was and why she was there. He never looked at his mom, but I wondered if it had to do with his aunt sitting next to her.
It seemed that he was saying what people wanted him to hear at times. I am not saying in any way shape or form that he was at fault for anything, but after four years of saying and doing what somebody wanted out of fear, it almost seemed like he was doing it a bit with his parents and Oprah. I am glad Oprah did not press some issues and he had the chance to say "I don't want to answer that" if he was uncomfortable.
I cannot imagine what that boy endured. I pray he will recover at some point and overcome his trauma.
Answer:
Its on right now in Calif. That poor boy. He must have been really brainwashed-terrified to not run or call home when he had numerous chances? It was very touching when he hugged the 2 police officers. Poor kid.
Answer:
That's what got me - when he mouthed 'thank you' to the police officers and then gave them such heartfelt hugs.
I too thought he was saying what he thought others wanted to hear during the initial interview and wondered why he kept looking at his dad and not mom. That would break my heart even more as a mom.
I don't understand why he would not be in therapy already. I would think it would be better to have him in some kind of counseling immediately. Even if they didn't deal with the 'big stuff' in the counseling - just dealing with being with family again and all of those issues could be discussed right away and be helpful.
Answer:
I think they said he was in therapy already.
Answer:
I was actually in shock that they talked to her already! I did not notice that he kept looking at his dad. I remember watching their first news conference and was extremely impressed with the way his dad was talking and how they were in general (I would be a horrible mess and flubbing my words!). I also cried when Shawn thanked and hugged the police officers!

I just posted about this in the news section, so pardon my kinda/sorta double post.
Why would the parents of that poor kid want to subject him to even more media attention and public scrutiny? I cringe every time I think about it. How could it possibly help him to go on a national talk show and announce that he had probably been molested for four and a half years?
Answer:
I just watched it back last night...DH was shocked they were on Oprah so fast, I commented, wow...she beat Barbara Walters!
Claire I noticed the same thing, He looked at his Dad, held his hand alot, but on the couch at the end he was also holding his Mom's hand. DH said he must have had a very strong relationshis to Stepdad prior to all of this.
And I lost it when he mouthed Thank you to the Officers. I'm glad these boys are home with their families and getting the therapy they will need!
Can you imagine, this was a total fluke how these boys were found? They were there to arrest someone else who "wasn't home". Thank goodness for Mitchell's description of the white truck!
Answer:
I agree that it was a little odd for him to be on Oprah...
the entire situation seems to have something odd going on though.
Answer:
I would not watch that Oprah episode and I haven't seen any of the other media coverage about it so I haven't seen how he acted. I just know that there is no way in the world, if that was one of my boys, I would have my family on any talk show further exposing my ds like that.
