Ask:
Could anyone share their experiences with c-sections? I have looked it up online, and watched tv shows, but I am looking for a persons personal account. No one I know thats close to me has had one. My doctor has informed me I have a 50% chance of needing one, I will find out at 35 weeks. Any info will help.
Answer:
I only have 1 child and i had her by c-section. The only advice i can give you is to start walking as soon as they will let you. Even though it is painful, get out of bed and start walking around.
Good Luck!
Answer:
You really, really want to hear my experience? It is really bad. . . but I will tell you if you want to know the dangers.
I don't like to terrify pregnant women, but I also like to warn women, too.
Answer:
I had Aidan by a scheduled c-section, he was born on a Friday and the next day I was walking, even went down to the hospital gift store with my mom. And I'll have Baby by the same way. I had no complications, my dr is a wonderful man, who delivered all three of his children by c-section also. His wife was 40, 41 and 43 when the children were born so I have no fears placing my life and my baby's life in his capable hands. They sent home an elastic band I wore at home to help with the healing process and it really helped.
Answer:
My mom had her first 3 children vaginally, then had me C-section. She said the C-section hurt just as bad as vaginally, but differently. I had both my children C-section. The first one I was not prepared for, I labored for 12 hours b4 they decided to take him by c-section. It did hurt like Hell to get out of bed, but the second one I was walking around that evening. I agree to get out of bed as soon as possilbe, I waited with my son for 3 days!! I think I would have been better off gritting my teeth and just doing it. I will tell you, if they offer you an enima, take it. I've heard when they open your abdomen in any kind of surgery, air gets in there and it hurts, hurts, hurts trying to pass it. I thought I was having a heart attack, but it was just the gas. I couldn't catch my breath the pain was so intense. Also, they will give you a pillow to hold onto your incision as you walk to get up. That helps too. Don't be afraid to ask for something for the pain. You just had major surgery, so it will hurt. Again, with my second child, it was a completely different expierence. I went in at 7:00 a.m., had a baby by 7:15, was back in my room holding her at 7:45. I think alot of my problem with the first one, was I was exhausted and then terrified (I had just seen the E.R. where Dr. Green did an Emergency C-section and the mom died), my Dr. just laughed at me when in tears I asked if I was going to die? I survived it twice, so have alot of women on here I'm sure. I heard a lot of horror stories about vaginal deliveries too. Like my mom said, it hurts either way!!
Answer:
Well, both my kids were from c sections and actually I am more scared of regular delivery!!
First one was an emergency c section. We had induced and the meds for the induction led to ds having a heart rate over 220 (I know over 200). My doctor at the time had me open and shut (with a healthy baby) in about 15 minutes. I pushed to get out of the hospital less than 48 hours later. YES, start walking as soon as they say that you can.
I hardly took any pain meds once I got home. I kept a pillow near by placed over my incision.
Second one was planned. Again started walking as soon as they let me. This time b/c my son was only 19 mo I chose to stay in the hospital as long as insurance would pay - 4 days. I was concerned that my 19 mo old would want carried/picked up so had someone with me when dh couldn't be.
I healed VERY QUICKLY from each. I could go into more detail - but there is no need for the info if you don't need a csection.
Answer:
I had two rough pregnancies and two rough deliveries, one natural with my DS and one with a C-section with the twins.
I would take a Natural delivery over a C-section in a heartbeat!!! Yes. it was bad for me...
The bad part was after the C-section, when you go home and you have to go through the pain of lifting up and feeding baby. The pain is really bad, and it's hard to walk and sit and even sleep for the first 2 weeks.
I dont' want to scare you, some women heal quickly and don't feel the same pain. I wish you the best of luck!!!
Answer:
Claire, you're scaring me But yes, if you dont mind sharing some of it!
Answer:
I had 3 c-sections in 3 1/2 years. The first one was a little more tender than the subsequent ones. To be honest, I didn't have any problems that would make me leary about another one. If it is the way you have to go, you will be fine.
Answer:
I had two c-sections. The first was an emergency and the second I tried for VBAC but it didn't happen. If there is a 50% chance you'll need a c-section, I would schedule it. I was very anti c-section but the emergency c-section was scary and more dangerous. My water broke naturally (a week after the due date) for both children but I didn't progress. If it is an emergency they rush you around and are not prepared for the procedure. You run the risk of an OR not being available. Both procedures went well and was walking the second day with both. If you have the procedure, I recommend having a glued suture instead of external stitches. You will not need to get stitches taken out and it is much more comfortable - not as much pulling when you bend. Another tip - take the minimum amount of meds that you can stand so you don't overdo it. I walked around too much then be extra sore the next day - so I cut back on my medication to keep me honest. Both of my girls are very healthy and had no problems. Good luck!!
