1st birthday parties

Ask:
Did you have a big bash? I just don't get them??? Maybe it is because we have never lived near family. The most we have ever had is cake with a few family members. I always figured I would save the money for when the child was not overwhelmed and could appreciate it.
Answer:

I have neverhad a huge b'day bash for the 1st b'day. I had by ds's b'day in july, his 1st, and it was terrible, he didnt want to see the cake, cut the cake, blow the candle, we tried to take pictures and you can see in the pictures he is crying.
Answer:

We didn't have a huge party for our boys first birthdays but we did invite most of my dh's family....great grandparents, grand parents, uncles, aunts and cousins....we didn't invite any friends though. We had it at the great grandparents house so they wouldn't have to travel.
It's like it was yesterday.

We didn't have a huge bash! First because at that age they are overwelmed easily. But it is a milestone birthday so we had grandparents and close relatives over for a small party and got a few cute photos for the baby book.

It's like it was yesterday. I like the idea of having it at the Great Grandparents house...I know that by the time DD is one, my grandfather probably won't be going anywhere anymore and this is a good idea for her birthday party - plus, they have a lot more room for the party than we do. Too bad she isn't a summer baby!

For my oldest dd we had friends and family and a little more of a get together party then her birthday party. She was thrilled and enjoyed herself. Her Daddy built her a wagon so everyone took turns taking her for a wagon ride.

For the youngest, we only had the grandparents. It was cold outside but she & her sister enjoyed playing with the balloons.

I always decorate the house with streamers and buy a mylar balloon for each child that will be at the party. We usually do pizza bites, cake & ice cream.

With us, we had decided to baptize the kids and celebrate their first birthday at the same time. So when they reached their 12 months birthday, we threw the big Baptism party/Birthday party.
One big bash for two celebrations.

Family is enough for us. DD's 3rd bday party is this weekend and we are still only having family and her friend from down the street! I did take cupcakes to preschool and she thinks that was her party for now!
Answer:

I went to the most ridiculous first birthday once. My first daughter was 13 months and was invited to another 1 year olds party. We were family--our husbands were in iraq together. But anyway--she invited her family, and her dh's family. atleast 40 people right there. and everyone she knew, who had kids under 3. It was HUGE. and the kids were miserable, it was hot outside, etc.

The biggest 1st bday i thew was for my first dd, and it wasnt THAT bad, but i learned since then and now I keep the B-days small.

I do ALWAYS buy a DQ icecream character cake. It is just our thing.

I was one of those Parent's who threw a huge shin dig for my DS's 1st b-day. We had about 125 people show up. We were expecting about 175 but there was a huge ice storm and many of our family who were coming didn't have power so ofcourse couldn't make it. I had rented a huge place (it was December) and had rented a Moon Bounce that was set up in the hall. All the kids (included my birthday boy) enjoyed themselves. The party was from 5-9pm with full dinner (catered) and cake (a huge one) afterwards. We played games and not once did my DS cry. We look at the pictures from his 1st b-day every now ang again, and he says he remembers (tho I know he only remembers thru pictures--but's that's okay). When we cut the cake he was so happy and atleast 50 people must have fed him a piece of cake and he didn't cry at all. He played with everyone. I didn't not have to run after him at all. I had spent a lot of money, but I don't regret it one bit. We have great memories of it. We didn't get a chance to hold a huge party for DS#2, and I regret that everyday.

here's a pic from my DS#1's 1st b-day party.
