Dang fundraisers!!!

Ask:
We got fundraiser information for youth wrestling. I totally get why they have fundraisers. They do alot of stuff for the kids and it costs money. Besides wresting equipment and uniforms, they have family fun nights, awards, meals, they pay entry fees for tournaments, etc. BUT.... I have 3 kids in wrestling! They are supposed to sell a minimum of 8 items each. The cheapest thing is $10. We just moved to town, I know no one! We have no family around here, and I am not working. Dh took the order form to work, but you can only sell so much cookie dough (that I could make for a couple of bucks!) They should think of something for people with multiple children in activites. I already paid $90 for them to participate, plus shoe cost, and we have to bake and work at a tournament. I just can't spend $240 in cookie dough!
Answer:

I would tell them just that. They should have a line that you can just give a donation. Sometimes, you just can only do what you can do, ya know. Don't beat yourself up and don't you dare buy that much cookie dough yourself!
Answer:

I dread the day that I have to do these... Is that negative??

Good luck tho--maybe do the door to door thing?
Answer:

My daughter goes to a Montesorri school. They are having a 1,000.00 raffle. Each ticket is 10.00 and each child is EXPECTED to sell 20 tickets. They have broken down fundraising Per family, and each family is expected to raise something like 500.00 times something like 48, 49 families. This includes SAlly mae items, yard sale items, raffle tickets and getting donations from businesses for a silent auction. Needless to say I wrote my check for 200.00 for the raffle tickets, who knows, maybe I will win. I think this fundraising puts alot on a family, esp with multiple children. In my case, since this is a private school, just add it into the tuition is my idea. Good luck to you, and happy cookie eating
Answer:

I agree that is a lot to have to sell! You are in a tough position. I can't stand the fundraiser that we have had so far. They were all just junk!
Answer:

Well, dh managed to sell 6 items at work. So I am going to order mayber 4 things, put all three boys's names on the one form and turn it in!!!
Answer:

I totally understand how you feel, every time I turn around the school is sending something home for them to sell. Yikes!! Also, every sport they are in you have to sell something.

My boys are in wrestling too. I do not mind their fundraiser and such as they are so good to the kids and are truly there for the kids. The tournament is the only way they have to make money for the kids. But our club invests it back into the kids and the Jr. High and High school wrestling program. They also help the kids out who cannot afford sign ups, singlets, shoes, and entry fees. The High School Coach is there for the little kids too, there has hardly been a time when he is not there when they are practicing. I am with you though, wrestling is expensive.

I do count my lucky stars for his Coaches as they are all awesome. We live in one town and drive 30 minutes just to be a part of this club. But they are like that not only with wrestling but all their sports. We are planning to move into this school district now.

When we had our fundraiser, cookies and pizza, I just donated $50. We try not to eat much snack food especially during wrestling season.

I would not feel bad though if you cannot afford to support fundraisers, surely schools, and programs also understand how often we are hit as parents.

Hope to hear about your wrestlers again soon!!!!
Answer:

Can you imagine what we would all look like if we had to buy every little thing our kids are "supposed" to sell. Yikes! LOL!
Answer:

I'm so thankful our school doesn't do any fundraisers like that - our fundraiser is an annual black tie dinner/dance with an auction and it's so much fun.

My kids do raise money for their swim team, getting sponsors for swimming laps but I just ask immediate family, and we of course, donate. It's not high pressure or anything.

I would never ask friends, neighbors etc to buy my kids stuff, I just wouldn't be comfortable with that. When my older son did Scouts, they had to sell a box of crappy chocolate bars. I just wrote a check for the cost of the box, and didn't even take our box home...L.OL.
Answer:

As far as fundraisers go I love when our school does the restaurant night fundraiser.

Boston Market is one that does it.

You have your participants and anyone who wants to support your group go on a particular night and a percentage of the total sales that night go to your school or organization.

At least you are getting a family meal for your money.

I also like the certificate programs (Script) where you purchase gift cards that you can use for everyday purchases and the company donates a percentage to your school.
