Ask:
Brodie is 25 mths old, and is still in his crib. So when should i move him into his toddler bed? He hasn't started climbing out of the crib yet. So I'm not sure when to put him in the toddler bed.
Answer:
We moved my 4 year old into her "big girl bed" just after she turned 2 because DD 2 was coming and needed the crib. Now they both sleep together in a full size bed with side rails - have been since summer when my youngest was almost 2.
So, in my opinion, I think now would be a good time. Only problem with it will be he can get up when he wants... and may through the night. We had to put a gate up at the top of our stairs because we were afraid they would walk through the hall sleepy and fall down the stairs instead of coming in our room or the bathroom.
Answer:
I've always heard you can leave them in the crib until they grow out of it (3 or 4 even). Personally, my older son came out just shy of two because we needed it for our younger son. We did have to use a baby gate to keep him in the room at night though. I'll probably move my younger son into a big boy bed at about the same age just because we did it that way with his brother (although we shouldn't be in a situation where we have to this time).
Answer:
I leave them in their as long as they let me!!! It is so much easier when they are in a crib!!
Answer:
I agree with Happymom. We plan on leaving #2 in his crib as long as possible. We only moved dd to a toddler bed because ds was on the way! If you do make the move, then consider putting a gate at the bedroom door. DD got out of her bed for a long time after we moved her. She took many a nap on the floor or sprawled half on the bed and half on the floor!!
Answer:
I agree with HappyMom, too!!!! The boys were in their cribs until I was expecting Wyndser, so Carson was a little over 3 and Parker was a 2 1/2. Wyndser is 2 1/2 now and still in her bed. I will keep her there at least until her 3rd birthday...maybe longer. You know, they used to be called 5-Year-Beds because they were fine to use for that amount of time. You don't need to be in a rush to move him unless it is really necessary.
Answer:
We switched the day ds climbed out.
Answer:
I think it depends on the child and the situation, but I am of the opinion to keep them in the crib as long as possible for your sanity!
My oldest was 2 1/2 just because we needed the crib for #2.
My second was just turned 2 and that was because he was climbing out of the crib.
My youngest just did it last Monday night at almost 3 (33 months) because she wanted to and it was time.
Answer:
Thanks for all of your input! I'm just asking because we are going to put the toddler bed in storage and I didn't want to have get it out a month from now. I'll probably him in the toddler bed once he can climb out or after he is potty trained Which i plan on doing once it gets warmer, so he can run naked.
Answer:
I think that a child shoud be out of the bed when potty training so that they can go pee at night if needed.
