Ask:
Just curious, as I think the little boy I babysit gets to do this at home!! He is on a sippy cup now, but I think that they let him take it now, instead of the bottle. Why? Well, because he looks for it when I put him down for a nap!!!
I gave my own two youngest dd's a cup of WATER to go to bed with at night, but that is as far as I have gone. I worry too much about their teeth. I quit giving it to them as we were potty training...so they wouldn't have a full bladder at night!
Answer:
We never did. Besides the fact it is terrible for their teeth, we were lucky because when ds was a baby we would eat dinner at 6 and then he'd go to bed right after. So that last bottle for us was the first and easiest one to cut out, since he'd have his sippy with dinner and then he'd be full and go to sleep. If it weren't for the teeth I wouldn't think it would be a big deal. Many many women nurse their babies to sleep for comfort and think nothing of it, if it weren't for the teeth I don't see this being any different, really.
Answer:
I did it with all my kids and my grandson. They all have good teeth.
Answer:
Now, do you mean handing the kid a bottle when they are in their crib... or giving them a bottle just before laying them down at night? I do the latter of the two. I know I need to cut out that bottle, but his little world's going to get rocked when we move in a month or so, and I want to keep things as 'normal' as possible until we settle again. (maybe it's more a comfort for me than him, but it makes bedtime uber easy!)
Answer:
I handed them a bottle when they were in their crib.
Answer:
My kids did have a bottle before they went to bed but I never gave them anything to drink in their crib. The bedtime bottle stopped around a year old then I would give them sippy cup of milk with their bedtime snack.
Answer:
I nursed all of mine until they were 2, but they all had a sippy cup at 6 months. No bottles, but my ex sil gave her boy a bottle with pop in it. hmmm.....but we were young (23) and didn't know much.
Answer:
I must admit that I nursed my son to sleep till about 5months, then he got a bottle before bed untill about 10-11 months. I admit, now I sometimes let him have the sippy cup before bed and even in his crib once in a while. I know it is my fault, but milk has always been such a comfort item for my son.
Answer:
My 2 youngest I would hand a bottle to them in the crib until they were 14 months and about 18 months. I have to say though with dd2 she was easy to get her off because she still took her nuk. dd3 never liked a nook and she was a bear to get off of taking the bottle at night....and still is she just turned 2 last week so it is still somewhat fresh in her mind. They both have great teeth and I think of it as the same as giving a bottle or nursing right before bed.
Answer:
Despite reading all the information to the contrary, I have given all my boys a bottle until they didn't want it anymore --- right there in the crib None of my kids have had cavities or any teeth issues. I nursed each of them until they were 12-15 months old, then weaned them to a bottle b/c I hate sippee cups Yep, I am a freak and like to do things my own way. <<stubborn>>
None of my kids ever used pacifiers. But, they love bottles whether they have water, diluted apple juice or milk/rice milk in them. btw, 3 different dentists have all told me sippee cups are no better for their teeth than bottles... they all keep the liquid on their teeth the same amount and duration.
I like bottles. ds#3 is turning 2 on Feb 4th and I haven't even thought about taking him off the bottle. No biggie to me
