Any Work at home Medical Transcriptionists?

Ask:
I was wondering how you got into this? I have worked for a Chiropractor and a Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Center. I am very fast as far as typing skills (worked in a bank too). How did you break into this field? Is there a web site where you pick up jobs? Is there some kind of software that helps you start out?

Thanks!
Answer:

My friend does this and she took an at-home course. She got a certificate when she was done.
Answer:

My friend is taking the course through our community college. that college has 100% job placement so that's how she plans on finding a job.
Answer:

I have been a Medical Transcriptionist/Medical proofreader for the last 7-1/2 years. If you would like more information on becoming one, what the job is like, etc, drop me a line and I will be happy to help you.
Answer:

I'm VERY interested in doing this. How did you get started?? did you have to take a course??
Answer:

It helps a great deal to have:
English usage and grammar skills
Good to great typing skills
anatomy and medical terminology, surgical proceding and equipment, labs, pharmaceuticals, etc.
prefix/suffix knowledge
knowledge in the use of reference materials; ie. books, or online sources
Internet usage
File transfer and related software

Good running computer with Windows XP
DSL/Cable for Internet file transmission
Microsoft Word and/or WP
Spreadsheet for invoice if necessary
Reference materials-list to follow
Foot pedal-WAV-type is common
Dictaphone if using phone line for retrieving work
Spell checking software
Word expansion software---this is awesome!

This is just a start, but don't get overwhelmed on the skills thing. I would say bottom line is that you will definitely need spelling/grammar skills and good to great typing skills to get you going.

As far as at-home MT schools, I don't know much about those, as I had attended night school for this at a local business/service school.
Hope this is helpful. drop me a line with any other questions...
Answer:

I took the at home course from to get the certificate. A local hospital needed someone and agreed to let me work from home so the job just kind of fell in my lap.

How did you like your experience at PCDI ?
Answer:

Sorry, I just saw this reply today. I had a good experience with pcdi. I felt the course work was easy but it did prepare you to work. It was a good investment for me considereing the knowledge I gained. The hospital does not require us to have any certain training, they will train you themselves, but because I had this training I was able to get on my own much quicker.
