Ask:
My DS, bless his heart has the WORST bad breath ever!! Its so gross it makes me want to gag. :hurl: I really don't get it at all. I brush his teeth sometimes 3 x's a day because of it! He doesn't eat anything weird, just normal kid stuff. He drinks water and juice and milk. I recently took him to the dentist and forgot to ask about it, but they said he does have two little cavities behind his front teeth (boy did I feel like a loser parent!!) could that be it? He also sucks on his bottom lip when he sleeps....I just don't know what to do. I mean, his breath is really icky, like a fishy smell. :hurl:
Anyone else's kids have this problem???
Answer:
It probably is the cavities. My dd has bad breath but only becuse she doesnt brush well. I wish I could tell you what to do but at this age I dont think you can do much.
Answer:
My son (6) has nasty breath, too, but he gets strep throat at the drop of a hat. I have been told that is one of the symptoms of enlarged tonsils, too. He is getting them out in March so we will see. . .
He has no cavities and the dentist seems to think that might be the cause, too.
Answer:
It could be a number of things. Make sure to brush his tongue. Always floss...that's actually one of the worst bad breath causes b/c food gets stuck between teeth and gums and starts to decay. Take him to a dentist, bad breath could be a sign of cavities, gingivites, or an absess. You want to take your child to the dentist as soon as they get their first teeth. It's never too early to start and make sure they are brushing and flossing regularly.
Answer:
My dd does when she wakes up in the morning and if she naps. Like normal morning breath. But I did notice the other day that she has a cavity between her two front teeth, and I suspect it is from being on the bottle until she was 27 months. (BIG LOSER MOM HERE!!!)
Answer:
Cavities, yes, can cause it. Ask the Dr. about giving flouride drops. Both my kids get them because we live on bottled or R/O water, so they get no flouride otherwise. Ds is 6 with no cavities, knock on wood.
Also, enlarged tonsils, tummy issues and a big one, allergies!!!!! will cause it. Dairy allergy is a big one. Except for the fact that ds vomited a lot on milk as a baby, we never knew he had a mild allergy until blood tests were done. He is also sensitive to bananas and corn.
Watch the juice and raisins - big cavity makers.
Unfortunately, my son does have bad breath, and I know it's due to his allergies - dust, etc. and stuffy nose.

I was going to say this- my oldest ds- had the worse breath- he also got strep throat a lot until his Dr. says his tonsils had to come out becasue he got Strep so much. His breath has never smelled bad since his tonsils were taken out. My dh and I were just talking about this the other night and both agree that once the tonsils left so did his bad breath
