Ask:
I had another ultrasound on Thursday because I am so big. My doctor just called me himself (scared me) and told me that the baby is measuring at atleast 30 weeks, so my due date is the 4th of April, not the 18th. I will be induced before, or by that date.
I am also on the high end of having too much amniotic fluid, and (this is the part I need some input on) it looks like the baby's kidneys are distended. I have never heard of this, and he said it was nothing to panic about now, and they will do another ultrasound in 3 weeks to check them again, and then compare the two.
Anyone ever heard of distended kidneys inutero?
Answer:
I also had an "unusual" amount of amniotic fluid with all three of my youngest children. One was born a full month early because of it, but NONE of them had problems.
Answer:
I had a ton of amniotic fluid with my first, too. I didn't have any problems from it though.
Answer:
I do know that this can be as dangerous as a "dry birth" where you don't have enough fluid. Your dr. is on top of it, though, so don't worry TOO much!!
Answer:
First of all, it sounds like you're in good care, and are being watched. There is not much you can do anyway at this point, and so many things really do straighten themselves out. Just keep eating right, drink plenty of water and take it easy. Watch those sweets. So don't panic, and enjoy your pregnancy. It also wouldn't hurt to call your doctor and ask what this means; that's why he's there. You can also ask what ifs and if he's dealt with this before.
Answer:
I found out it means the baby has enlarged kidneys. It can go away at any time or continue through until she is born. It is linked to the high fluids. The baby's kidneys just aren't draining at the rate they should be. I will know more in a few weeks, but I am not worrying too much.
Thank you, ladies
Answer:
It sounds like they are keeping close tabs on things so that is good. I don't know much about enlarged kidneys in utero. I do know one of my twins had fluid levels on the high side of normal, which caused me to go into pre-term labor. Two reasons: the first was because the girls had something called Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrom (where one is getting more through the placenta than the other one), and the second is because she had something called esophageal atresia (a gap in the esophagus so it wasn't connected to her stomach), and she couldn't swallow her amniotic fluid.
Keep us posted on how everything goes at your next ultrasound!
Answer:
When I was pregnant there were "issues" with my son's kidneys. I had to have an ultrasound every month from month 5-7 and then every week from then on. My child's kidneys were enlarged and had cysts. In my case they were checking to make sure there was enough fluid. I COMPLETELY understand your worry...but it really sounds like your doctors are keeping good track of what is going on. Needless to say from 20 weeks until the day Ben was born I worried, cried and prayed every day. With what they saw they could not tell me what was going on, as there is a genetic disease in my family it could have been. In the end, he is a miracle. He is healthy, he is big and strong and hitting all of his milestones ahead of the game.
As I was in your place 5 months ago....I will keep you in my thoughts. I know how you feel!

I have never heard of it, but I wish you the best of luck and a healthy, happy baby!
Answer:
I had too much amniotic fluid.. I think it was called polyhydramnios??? I was beyond huge, but they never mentioned the baby's kidneys. Try not to worry... you're baby is fine! I was born with only one, very enlarged kidney and I'm fine. (well, some people think I'm a little nutty, but....)
