Any ideas for transition to sippy cup?

Ask:
My daughter is 14 months old and will not drink out of a sippy cup. I have 4 different types of cups and nothing (cups with straw, nuby, gerber, playtex w/handles). She just chews on it.

I didn't have any trouble with my oldest, she started at 6 months with diluted juice.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

I took the bottle away when I changed both of mine to whole milk at 12 months. I just took all the bottles and threw them out, then I had two sleepless nights. They would want the bottle, but I would hand them the sippy cup. I started on it as soon as I got home from work on a friday night, and by sunday morning, they were fine with drinking from the sippy. They were eating cheese and yogurt, so the calcium was there. They ate their meals fine. So don't worry if they don't drink it for a couple of days. Just be strong and don't give up.

I agree with this. This is what I did for my older two.

I just hope it works for my 8 mo. old in 4 months. I am older so I don't have the patience I had 10+ years ago.

I also tried several kinds before my son got the hang of it. The first cups he actually favored were The First Years disposble cups. I don't know if they were easier to hold, suck from, or what. After he got the hang of using them, he switched to the typical sippy cups much easier. I just made sure he was getting dairy from other sources during the transition. He hasn't used a bottle for about a month now!

I kinda had the same problem. Neither child took a bottle AT ALL but I was able to get DS to use sippy cups but my DD just really started last month when she was 14 mths. I swear I have one of every cup tryinig to find one she liked. I got a 2pk of first years take and toss bottles and now she'll use any cup I give her.

good luck!

When I started it, I used the cup w/no stopper. After she figured it out, I could put in the stopper. I also made sure that yummier stuff went into the cup at first. I fed it to him first, then let him play on his own.

I went cold turkey with both of my kids. It was hard at first but don't give up. The payoff is worth it.

i went cold turkey wiht both girsl and I didnt think it was hard. By the second day they were fine with it. They jsut learn that if they re thirsty they have to use the sippy. Buying differnet types of cups just makes it worse becuase it confusses them.

My daughter is almost 8 months old, and we have used the AVENT bottle system since she was born. The great thing about AVENT is they make sippy cups with soft tops similar to the feel of the nipple on the bottle, then they graduate to the hard top sippy cups. It's a great money saver also because once you have the cups, you just have to replace the tops. I don't know how any of the other systems work though

My 1yo dd wants to drink out of it b/c her 5yo older sister does so maybe if she is seeing someone else do it, it will entice her?
